Opportunities Aren’t Given They’re Made

We’ve all seen the campaign that look school pride to a new level and on Wednesday, November 28th the amazingly talented team from Neiman advertising agency ventured to North Philadelphia to give us a behind the scenes look at how they did it. First to speak was David Burden the Senior Strategic Planner on the Temple University account. He explained how Temple was way below its competitors when it came to dollars spent on advertising. Temple was “outspend and outshouted” and the higher education market is a “sea of sameness” as Burden put it.He went on to discus the marketing objectives based on the RFP from Temple University.

Laughing While Learning with the Braithwaite Crew

I began interning at Braithwaite Communications at the end of August.  Braithwaite is a Branding, PR and Marketing firm located at 1500 Walnut St.  I took on a confidential crisis project on my first day and from then on I knew that I wouldn’t be doing any irrelevant work.  The Account Executives are great at what they do and their great habits of doing their job efficiently and following with their clients has rubbed off on me.

Philadelphia Flyers Internship

When I first got hired as a intern with the Philadelphia Flyers, I expected an experience to be very different than the one I am having because of the current lockout state. I was hired as a game night promotions intern, which means, that we would attend all the home games and set up promotions and advertising during the games, enhancing the fan experience would be our main task. However, now because of the lack of a signed contract, I was giving a chance to explore all of the different aspects of the business and marketing side of sports. I knew I would have a great learning experience when I got hired but I am exploring and discovering new passions. I have done a good amount of work with Complex Marketing, which is something I want to pursue after my internship is over. Complex Marketing is the advertising and PR company with in the Comcast Spectacor building. Their main duty is to market the shows and events that come into the Wells Fargo Center, for example certain concerts, Disney on Ice, the Circus, Philadelphia Wings etc. Currently, we are working on marketing the Disney on Ice shows that are coming to the city next month. As a part of this effort, we have done numerous events at Xfinity Live, like for instance on Tuesday, November 13th, we are doing a family movie night were we will be showing the new Disney movie Brave. At other events, I got the chance to dress up like Cinderella and give at coupons and discounts for tickets to families in attendance. So far, I have been having a wonderful experience with the Flyers organization and really hope to make a career with them.

Thing that can go wrong… just might go wrong on live TV

I am the Programming Intern for Sprout, a 24 hour preschool channel based out of the Comcast Building in Philadelphia. I spend three days a week at Sprout, and at least one of these days is spent as the Production Assistant (PA) on their live show. The Sunny Side Up Show (SSU) airs live, every day, out of the Sunshine Barn (the studio) with Chica (preschool chicken puppet) and one of the four hosts. The show goes live at 8:50am and ends at 12pm. The show is laid out as an interstitial, so it airs in between other shows and as bumpers for commercials. There are 13 links that make up the show, each being approximately 3-4 minutes, and a few “squeezes,” which are about :15-:45 seconds and are used to share viewer submitted pictures and messages.

The AD industry: Stress, but Great Rewards

Throughout my whole experience as an account service intern at Tag Strategies, the internship has taught me how valuable it is to apply the knowledge you learned from the classroom into the real world. It has also taught me that every branding firm and agency is different. Whether its big, small, or medium sized, each agency has a different goal. What I really like about Tag Strategies is its mission in finding the “It” factor in every client. What will make each product differentiate itself from other competitors?

A pleasant surprise

I have been continuing my first internship here at Finch Brands for a few months now .  Finch Brands, for those who aren’t familiar with it, is a Philadelphia based boutique branding agency located in Old City near 3rd and Chestnut street.  For me Finch Brands was a perfect fit for what I needed out of an internship.  Finch is a smaller business, but they work in all parts of advertising including creative, strategy, research, account management etc…  This means I get a little experience in everything.
