Internships…Not As Intimidating As You Think

My name is Abby and I am a Senior here at Temple; I am studying Advertising with a concentration in Art Direction. This past semester, I worked as a Graphic Design intern at the Alumni Relations Office here on campus. Up until this past summer, I wasn’t entirely comfortable or confident in my designing abilities and as a result, hadn’t searched for a Graphic Design internship. The idea of going to an internship and creating work for someone other than myself or a professor really intimidated me. Now that I’ve completed my internship, I can happily say that I was worrying over nothing. Supervisors understand you are an intern and that you’re there to learn, not create award-winning work; as long as you’re trying your best, you have nothing to worry about.

Trying out Temple Football

When many people think of fall, they think of apple cider, pumpkin picking, changing leaves, and of course, weekends dedicated to college football. With football season in full swing, I have had the opportunity to intern with Temple football and assist with their advertising, their graphics, and their behind-the-scene operations. My name is Jocelyn Burns, and I am a junior advertising major following the art direction track in the Klein School of Media and Communication.

Every Word Matters: Crafting Brand Identity with Anaak

My boss is very specific about how she wants to project her brand identity; every visual and every word matters.

Project, received. Quote, approved. Artwork, approved. Order, sent. Proofs, approved. Order, picked up. Invoice, paid.

I’ve been Genji’s graphic design intern for a month now. I couldn’t have asked for a better first internship opportunity. To provide some background, Peace Dining Corp is our parent company. There is Genji Retail Sushi (GRS) who is the sushi provider for Whole Foods Market. Then there Genji LLC, the office I work at in Center City. Our office houses the Support Center for Genji. It’s where the IT, Accounting, Business Risk, Marketing, Creative team etc. for Genji is located.

Get Inspired

As an art direction student in Temple’s advertising program I’ve often been consumed with moments where creative ideas seem completely out of the realm of existence. However, with a little help of our World Wide Web I wanted to share with you a few places to grab some inspiration while also being aware of the competition of other students who are going to be our competitors in the ever fearful job search.

As my internship at Two Paperdolls draws to a close, I reflect back on this amazing experience. Being able to work directly with the web department, an area which I hope to focus my career in as a designer, I’ve gained some invaluable insights.

Sara Cwynar: photographer

Sara Cwynar is yet another photographer that I have come to admire. Her use of color is muted and beautiful. Check out those black and whites in the gallery provided though, the subtle features of the subject are so mysterious.

Dana Tanamachi

Wow, I really respect this woman. Dana Tanamachi is a designer and custom chalk letterer living in Brooklyn. That’s right, custom chalk letterer. I bet that looks really cool on her resume. She does a variety of work including package design, magazine and catalog work, and so much more.

Design Love Fest is one of those blogs I check daily, and have found that the designer Bri Emery can be found pretty much EVERYWHERE in the blog world. She is somehow connected to most of my favorite blogs, which you will probably hear about most of them right here on AdLib.

I have been given the amazing opportunity to continue my summer-long internship with Diccicco Battista Communications through my fall semester. Diccicco Battista Communications – “DBC” for short – is a full service advertising agency located in Conshohocken, PA, where they provide design, web programming, media and PR services to a bounty of clients ranging from University of Kentucky Healthcare to Applebees.
