A simple use of geographic coordinates and wikipedia articles provides us with this simple animation.

Displaying what looks like exploding random dots, is actually the location of large amounts of human progression.

“Many Wikipedia articles are tagged with geographic coordinates. Many have references to historic events. Cross referencing these two subsets and plotting them year on year adds up to a dynamic visualization of Wikipedia’s view of world history.”

My only concern with this video is its accuracy. Then again when looking at the facts, they only used 14,238 events with locations. Therefore it isn’t something you should swear by.
