It does raise the question: Where are these statistics coming from?

While these numbers may be accurate, It’s hard to deny that we live in an innumerate society that willingly accepts statistics without question. Advertisers take advantage of this, news agencies take advantage of this, and social advocacy groups take advantage of this. Statistics can be powerful and manipulative. Damned Lies and Statistics by Joel Best is a great read. I recommend it to anyone interested in ad research and sociology.
