Kia: Korean or other Wie’s? https://templeadlib.com/kia-korean-or-other-wies/ https://templeadlib.com/kia-korean-or-other-wies/#comments Sun, 13 Mar 2011 17:46:49 +0000 https://www.templeadlib.com/?p=4656 In the couple of weeks leading up to spring break, I was given the task of repositioning Kia for a portfolio (class) assignment. We first had to write a letter selling our idea (to the CEO… professor) and then follow that up with some print executions. I think the only rule is that we weren’t allowed to position on price– someone else can always undercut so it’s not a true position.

Shape-up for the New Year with Skechers https://templeadlib.com/shape-up-for-the-new-year-with-skechers/ https://templeadlib.com/shape-up-for-the-new-year-with-skechers/#respond Sun, 02 Jan 2011 16:43:14 +0000 https://smc.temple.edu/ad-lib/?p=3015 I don’t think there were any knockout holiday spots this year. There was some singing, dancing, and shopping, but nothing too memorable (at least not for me) until I saw this Skechers ad. This spot is clever in that it’s positioned for everyone. Getting your wife or significant other a treadmill, or any piece of workout equipment for that matter, as a holiday gift is like admitting she has a fault…

Honest to Goodness Lunches May be Too Honest https://templeadlib.com/honest-to-goodness-lunches-may-be-too-honest/ https://templeadlib.com/honest-to-goodness-lunches-may-be-too-honest/#respond Sat, 06 Nov 2010 12:47:03 +0000 https://smc.temple.edu/ad-lib/?p=2373 “Honest to Goodness” is a new campaign from Healthy Choice. It demands more attention than the previous campaign with Julia Louis Dreyfus. It’s easier to sell an idea with unknowns than it is with a celebrity. What about people who don’t care for a particular celebrity? It creates an instant disconnect from the product. There’s no prior expectation with unknown actors. That’s not to say that…

Absolut: Cocktails Perfected https://templeadlib.com/absolut-cocktails-perfected/ https://templeadlib.com/absolut-cocktails-perfected/#comments Wed, 23 Jun 2010 15:46:27 +0000 https://smc.temple.edu/ad-lib/?p=1358 I was surprised to see these ads placed consecutively on every other page. I thought it was so unusual. They say that it takes three impressions for a consumer to remember a product. In last month’s issue of Rolling Stone, three of the ads appeared in the same way. I was going to blog about it, but I changed my mind. I even tried to remember what the ads were about, but I didn’t. I’m not sure that…

Let's Terminate Piracy…? https://templeadlib.com/lets-terminate-piracy/ https://templeadlib.com/lets-terminate-piracy/#respond Sun, 30 May 2010 19:28:10 +0000 https://smc.temple.edu/ad-lib/?p=1234 I just got around watching a piracy documentary that I DVR’d a couple of weeks ago. It’s called “Rip: A Remix Manifesto.” In it, I saw the most interesting ad featuring none other than Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger. It’s a bit dated, but it’s still cool for what it is. I wonder if the actual spot had subtitles? I’m the type to root for the bad guys. Imagine that.

Nike: Tiger… Did you learn anything? https://templeadlib.com/nike-tiger-did-you-learn-anything/ https://templeadlib.com/nike-tiger-did-you-learn-anything/#respond Thu, 08 Apr 2010 18:17:36 +0000 https://smc.temple.edu/ad-lib/?p=907 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIYejgkqd0o This is my kind of spot. As a completely indifferent third party, I’m relieved to see something so dramatic (without it being gossip because I cringe at gossip) on TV even if it is about Tiger Woods. The omniscient narrator is much more welcoming than the typical announcer format. Tiger himself is a brand. His life has been playing out like a Greek…
