Philly2Night Farewells

I am finishing up my last week at Philly2Night, and it’s bittersweet.  I had a great experience there and I’m satisfied with how I got to spend my time working for the company.  Looking back, it’s crazy to see how many doors this one internship has opened for me.  I not only got to refine my skills in social media, but I got to take bits and pieces of information from everyone’s roles in the operation at Philly2Night.  I also met a ton of people to network with, and even got another job.  I say that my last week is…

Social Media Specifics

I am a few weeks into my internship at Philly2night, working as a social media intern.  If anyone isn’t already familiar, Philly2night is a nightlife/food/drink/happy hour/local event resource.  So far I have been learning how to perfect my social media skills.  The biggest struggle I have had so far is trying to figure out a way to break through the clutter we all so frequently face while using any social media platform.  However, I was given a ton of great insight about the statistics behind online postings.  For example, what times are best for posting, using a word economy, and…

It’s All About Customer Engagement These Days

One of the many things I have learned during my internship at Aon Affinity is that there has been a fundamental shift in marketing. What works now is something that I didn’t read about in any textbooks or discuss in any classes. This fundamental shift is called customer engagement. Mass-marketing campaigns have a 2% response rate and have been on a decline; pelting consumers with your messages no longer works. The hard-sell method, for the most part, it simply outdated and consumers are tired of it. Customer engagement involves building a relationship with your customer and building their trust. One of…

Miles High Productions – Halfway

I have completed four weeks worth of work for Miles High Productions, now working on over eight different entertainment campaigns, including Toby Keith’s new alcohol campaign “WildShots”,  an up and coming female electronica artist “Natalie Walker”, and a Chicago rock festival “MOB Fest”. Having the ability to work with various forms of campaigns (musicians, events,  new products) is giving me a closer look at different marketing strategies for online social media. The strategies that I would use in order to market an upcoming musician is far different from marketing a product campaign, even if I am using the same social networking websites. An example…

Crash, Burn and Victory

My internship at WMCN, an independent television station outside of Atlantic City, NJ, has given me a great opportunity to observe and be a part of the television industry. Though most of my days consist of close captioning local infomercials or shadowing the editing process, about two weeks into my internship I had the chance to be part of a three man crew at a infomercial shoot at a car dealership, The Jeff Dambrossio Auto Group, in Downingtown, Pa. About a week before the shoot, Justin, the station’s head producer, jokingly told me that our shoots were cursed, because on the last…

NBC – Halfway

The summer is flying by and I am already five weeks into my NBC internship. The initial few weeks was all a learning process, mainly a way for me to figure out my own style of marketing. I was given assignments throughout the first half of this internship to put together power-point packages for future clients who would advertise on NBC 10 Philadelphia. The slide-shows that I would put together were all used as sample packages that were only used to train me on how to put together these projects for the clients. The sample packages that I completed were for…

DogFace

I recently read today that 1 in 10 pets have some type of social networking profile.  On Facebook, 14% of dog owners have made a profile for their pet.  So here at Philly2Night, I wonder how many dogs I have invited to open bars around Philadelphia.  Not to be disconcerted, I’d like to look on the positive side of this interesting phenomenon. Perhaps it means we are getting more and more comfortable with the way we use the internet as a form of communication.  I see a difference in a way we live through the internet these days.  I think…

My Arbitron

With over a month done of my sales internship at Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, I am happy to say that I am finally doing real work and enjoying it.  From my experience so far, I have found that sales is one of the most hectic professions in the business world.  That is why I have found myself doing much of the research work for potential and existing clients because the other sale associates just do not have the time to explore the web and build excel spreadsheets.  My main tool has been Arbitron.com which is a research company which collects…

Don’t let nerves take over.

Since I was a child, I have developed a fear of talking to strangers on the phone.  I really couldn’t explain why. I became uncomfortable, restless, and nervous.  My voice starts shaking and palms begin sweating.  Weird, I know. You’re probably thinking I was crazy for caring who is on the other line and believing I’m being judged on my delivery, but I couldn’t help it. I remember in my interview with my now supervisor, Joanne Marder, my phone skills were questioned.  I was in the moment and responded, “Not a problem, I talk on the phone all the time…”…

‘AD’ronyms

The fast paced day-to-day at an ad agency leaves no time to use complete sentences.  Thats why the industry has coined a slew of acronyms to streamline communication.  This is a cheat sheet I’ve complied in my time at SAY Media- you’re welcome. GSC: Global Sales Call – This is when all the company employees and big wigs get on a conference call to discuss weekly and monthly goals. ATS: Average Time Spent EOD: End Of Day – What we all work towards. CSM: Client Service Manager DAA: Digital Advertising Alliance –  CMO: Chief Media Officer IMP: Impressions – being…

Red Bull Records

Hey! My name is Adam Libon and as before stated I work with Red Bull Records advertising, promoting and marketing their four bands. So far this experience has taught me a few things. First off, there are a lot of things one can do to advertise bands. You can pretty much do anything and as long as the word is out about it then people will be happy. For example, since Social Media is so popular now, the label goes online to see who is talking about the bands. So reposting things on Facebook or retweeting things on Twitter, the…

Social Media 101

It’s my 5th week at At Media. So far, I’ve learned a lot about things I thought I had already mastered like social media. Facebook and Twitter alone can be used in ways I didn’t know about for marketing and promotional purposes. What you say, how you say it, who you involve is all a delicate process and needs to be done correctly. It seems so simple posting the specials for a local bar or a sale for a clothes store but truly engaging your audience, talking with them instead of at them, is a skill that I’m learning to…

Aon: One Intern in a Global Environment

On my first day, I felt overwhelmed, I was going to be working for a company with about 60,000 employees in 120 countries and they are the principal sponsor the world’s most popular football (soccer) team, Manchester United. I definitely felt like I was staring into the eyes of a beast but that quickly changed. I am finding out that the corporate world is a much friendlier and inviting environment than you would think. In classes, I often didn’t like the team assignments or activities that we did because I felt I would be better off doing it alone, but…

A Dynamic Organization

When I first made contact with the March of Dimes, applying for this internship position, I wrote that I was excited about the possibility of getting involved with such a dynamic organization. I may have been sucking up a bit, but I wasn’t lying: I had done some research on the company and discovered that its focus had changed quite a bit since its inception. The March of Dimes was founded in 1938 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to fight polio. At that time it was called the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, the early-twentieth-century name for the disease poliomyelitis,…

Free Tickets For Your Efforts

…So I’m sitting in the office busy doing work..and all of a sudden, Adam walks over and hands me a pair of tickets to Hershey Park!!!! Have I mentioned I love the free perks at MayoSeitz? I’m still awaiting my 10-piece cookware set that should be coming in the mail, courtesy of a partner of MayoSeitz!
