The Value of Experience

I have come to learn that internship and work experience is just as valuable as classroom education. As I approach the end of my internship at O3 World, a small interactive agency in Fishtown, I reflect on how much I have learned about the industry and myself as a professional. I have been a Project Management Intern, allowing me to gain more experience within project management rather than Art Direction I study in my classes. Through my experiences at O3 I have come to realize that the client and project management side of advertising is definitely where I belong. Being…

The Dream Machine

Before starting my internship at Magic Hat Brewing Company I had no idea what I was in for. I guess I imagined my days to be monotonous and filled with busy work, like every other intern. But this internship couldn’t be farther from a boring day to day job. As the Philadelphia Magic Hat Merry Prankster I have a lot of responsibility and basically am given the support and tools needed to run my own Merry Prankster program for my area. I work with our wholesalers to build a relationship between bar owners and Magic Hat. When starting my internship my first…

To work in an agency or not to work in an agency?

My name is Dallim Kim and I am a marketing intern at Rossi Wellness Center. Rossi Center is a small medical practice, obviously not an advertising agency. Since I have some experience on the client side,  I am curious as to what it is like to work in an agency. I always hear that working in an agency is stressful and really fast paced, but on the client side it is a bit more relaxed and not so chaotic. I think I am looking for something in between but I don’t know if that exists.   I did a little research and…

Rocking out with WMGK

Now that my time with 102.9 WMGK is coming to an end, I can now reflect on what my internship with Philly’s classic rock station has taught me. Working for WMGK has been a blast! Over this past semester, I have learned so much more about the advertising industry and the world of radio than I have ever thought possible. Before I started my internship I had little to no interest in pursuing a career within the radio industry. Like most people, I assumed that radio was a dying art especially with the younger audience. Before my internship I assumed…

The Realtime Media Experience Part II

Hey guys, It’s Stan again back with another blog about my experience at Realtime Media. Creativity, brainstorming, debates, and influence are just some things that I feel surrounds the advertising industry. The understanding that the survival of any agency is maintaining a certain number of accounts to remain stable. In order to remain stable you need to ensure that your agency is innovative. I have a seat in on creative briefs, many brainstorming sessions, as well as organized presentations for pitches to big clients during my time at Realtime Media. I must say that a lot of time and teamwork…

HTML for Dummies

During my interview for Fox Chase Cancer Center one of my interviewers asked if I had ever designed a webpage. I told her I hadn’t but would use the resources available to me to help me redesign their existing page. These resources have come in the form of professors, classmates, and Google. They have been incredible tools. My supervisor, Cheryl, has been very encouraging and excellent at providing feedback on my mock-ups. This experience has helped me grow as a designer and challenged me. Overcoming these challenges has given me confidence. One thing that has slightly tarnished said confidence, however,…

Are you a Public Health major?

The majority of interns employed by the Office of Health Communications and Health Disparities (OHCHD) at Fox Chase Cancer Center are Public Health majors. I am pretty sure most of the people in the office are under the impression that I’m a Public Health major who happens to work in Adobe Suite a lot. This is okay with me because it has allowed me to learn about a new field I would have never been exposed to. The OHCHD has taught me extensively about each department and their role in the organization. The meetings on health literacy and clinical trials…

Saying farewell to a wonderful experience!

I am approaching the end of my internship at Clarisse Inc. I’m going to miss the staff here; we’ve all developed a very fast paced easy-going environment in the office and everything has just started to become customary. Although prom season is winding down, the office is still pretty busy. I feel bad that my internship ends when things are really hectic but I’m doing whatever I can to help get tasks done and out of the way. I can really see how my experience has flourished by looking at the tasks I used to have difficulty understanding and completing…

Winding Down

Hello all, My time a Isdaner & Company, LLC is almost to an end. I had a great time being the marketing intern there and hosting events. My favorite memory that I have at Isdaner, is the Sunadae Mondays. Once a month in the spring and summer the marketing team hosts an ice cream social for the entire staff. I believe it was most rewarding because tax season is very draining for the accountants and small ice cream break to relieve themselves is perfect! Overall I enhanced my skills with excel and was able to train other employees on how to use it…

A new look at marketing

I’ve been interning at HighPoint Solutions for the past 4 months, which is located in East Norriton. HighPoint Solutions is an IT Consulting company who work closely with HealthCare and Life Sciences businesses. They offer a variety of services from Cloud systems, advisory services, outsourcing, content management, and etc. This has been an amazing experience and I truly enjoy coming into the office everyday. When I first started to study advertising I imagined myself working at a small advertising firm in the city, and working here as opened my eyes to all of the different marketing/advertising opportunities. These past 4…

It’s so hard to say good-bye!

After an exciting four months, my internship has come to an end. I will miss working with my team here at Harmelin, a lot.The one thing I will not miss is the 45 minute commute down the Schuylkill! Today my team is taking me out for a celebratory lunch in Manayunk, thank god the weather is nice! It is nice to know that people really see and appreciate your hard work and dedication in the workplace. I have met some really amazing people here and I hope to keep in touch with them as much as possible, especially for future…

15 Minutes of Fame

My last week of interning at CBS 3 has made its way here and has given me such a bittersweet feeling. Since my last posting I have performed even more tasks and even made it to live TV!-My appearance was not intentional FYI… So where do I begin? Well, in addition to the continuous shadowing of Account Executives and learning more and more about the digital and television sales industry, I also had the great opportunity to work during the Ronald McDonald phone bank charity event that was broadcast on live TV. This was such an exciting experience and I…

The Importance of Team Chemistry In Business Meetings and Workplace

My name is Alex Richardson and I am currently a senior advertising major focusing in copywriting. For the last three months I have been interning with KYW News Radio. I’ve had two different positions with my internship: ad sales and copywriting. So every Wednesday everyone from the sales department has a business meeting, which are always run by the VP/Senior Executive. After attending these meetings for the past several months, I’ve been able to realize the great chemistry between all the workers for the advertising sales department. And this is mainly because of how the VP handles his workers. Despite the meeting…

WPHL 17 2

Almost done my internship and I would do it again. At PHL17 you are responsible for yourself after given a specific task,  i.e. the real workforce. But it’s a great opportunity to get to learn about other departments at the station, to ask questions and to give you real world experience. After I finish my work and there is nothing else Jeff Finken needs from me I ask other people if they need help or I go and explore.  You get to meet people because you have to interact with them. Not only have I learned from the research I…

So many changes, so quickly…

Working at The Rossi Wellness Center was a great experience – but an odd one, I must say. I was originally hired by to do mostly print ads and general graphic design work, which is much of what I started off doing at the internship. However, as time went on, they wanted to utilize some of my other abilities as well. As a double major in both film and advertising, they thought about using me to do a promotional video in addition to the print work. They were also impressed with my web design work I’ve done in the past…
