Interning in the Fitness Industry

Having  interned at two entirely different fitness facilities within the Philadelphia region, I have acquired  considerable knowledge about what is  necessary to  run a successful, profitable business. Currently, interning for Trap Door Athletics has been a unique and educational experience as I have worked  diligently to help this 1-year old company increase public awareness while steadying its feet. Hired as an advertising intern, I was thrilled when informed I would be needed to assist in event planning, thus allowing me to dip my toes into something new. During the first few weeks, I maintained focus on controlling social media updates…

Independence and Music, for Me

With the summer dwindling down, the days at Phillybass’d have been becoming longer with project deadlines quickly approaching. Wrapping up all of these projects before the beginning of the new semester has been challenging due to everyone’s individual jobs. We are all to complete one stage of the project, finalize or part, then add it collectively to the drop box to pull the whole project together. What makes this so difficult is that all the interns are never in the office all at once, so there have been issues with communication and organizational efforts for the projects.   What these…

Early Experience as a Harmelin Media Intern

Hello everyone my name’s Kyle Killoran and I’m heading into my Junior Year at Temple. For the past few weeks I’ve been working as an intern at a media buying agency called Harmelin Media, located nearby in Bala Cynwyd. Over what’s been a short period of time, I have had the opportunity to work with a number of great people and learn a lot at the same time. While I have gotten to work on a number of different campaigns, the main client that I have spent my time on is BET. This has provided me with a chance to…

Second month of Internship!

Well this is the second half of my summer long internship and I have made many strides and certainly learned that internships are something that resembles a totem pole.  Starting at the bottom where doing some small work, something boring, something you are not really interested in are all standards to just beginning your first internship.  But what my internship has shown me is that the first month was the same as the bottom of the totem pole.  I really was not doing much, or sometimes things that I was doing just were subliminal and not interesting.  Though, as I…

Behind the Scenes of a Lexus Commercial Shoot with Team One

Hello from sunny Los Angeles, California! I’m Michelle Saunders, Interactive Production intern for Saatchi & Saatchi’s Team One. Team One is a full service advertising agency and the seventh largest agency in Los Angeles. We have over 300 employees and work with clients including Lexus, the Ritz Carlton, Haagen Daz international, JW Marriot, American Express, and others. I work in the Idea Production department as part of the Interactive Production team, meaning I help create anything digital or web related, mostly on Lexus projects. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be able to go to a commercial…

Giving Back

Hello everyone! My name is Eryn Foust and I have been interning for Susan Graham Consulting located in Hershey, PA this summer. SGC is a technical recruiting agency that specializes in IT/Technical positions. I only have a few more weeks left at my internship and I can truly say I do not think I could have possibly landed a better position. I’ve learned so much at my internship this summer. From how to sort through resumes, to what marketing strategies work best for SGC, to mastering every social networking site possible, to just how important networking really is. But, the…

My XTU Internship and Toby Keith Culture Shock

At the beginning of the summer, I was accepted as a promotions intern at Beasley Broadcast Group in Bala Cynwyd, PA. Though there are two radio stations in the studio I work for (Wired 96.5, 92.5 XTU), I was under the impression that I’d be working solely with Wired, “Philadelphia’s Hip Hop Station”, since I’m more familiar with that type of music. Sure, I’ve listened to bluegrass, maybe jammed out to the Dixie Chicks now and then, but when I was asked to do promotions for the Toby Keith concert for XTU, the country station, my first reaction was dread.…

Final Days At Internship – Great Experience Thus Far – Elizabeth Moore

Hello all, My name is Elizabeth Moore, I am a current student at Temple University going into my senior year.  I intern at a production company called Shooters, INC in Philadelphia on 6th and Walnut Street at the Curtis Center.  I started in mid June and will be ending towards the beginning of August.  Having been here for more than a month has been a useful tool towards my career in the advertising industry.  When I first started off as an intern at Shooters and as a student at Temple I was interested in working at an advertising agency.  However,…

Personally Representing 92.5 XTU and Wired 96.5

As I explained in my prior posts, I spent this summer interning at Beasley Broadcast Group in the promotions department. Beasley oversees both 92.5 XTU (Philadelphia’s Country Station) and Wired 96.5 (Philadelphia’s Party Station). While the two stations play totally different music genres, my job as a promotions intern is to act as a cultural chameleon. In one day, I could be working a Brad Paisley concert, and another day I’ll work a Mac Miller concert (true stories). Regardless to which station I am representing at an event, our job in promotions is to distribute freebies and prizes from our…

It’s Always the Little Things

My name is Michael, I’m one of the new interns at PhillyBass’d working as the Social Media and Marketing intern. I am an Advertising student at Temple University with a concentration in Art Direction, looking to move forward into the music and entertainment realm upon graduating. I currently work within the music industry and knew this opportunity interning with PhillyBass’d was a perfect fit for my intern experience. The first few days at any new job can be overwhelming and nerve wrecking, but PhillyBass’d didn’t give me that impression. The environment was awesome, very welcoming, and had a lot of…

Springing into Action: Poptent

I’m Gabby and this summer I was given the amazing opportunity to be the marketing intern at Poptent. Based  in Orange County, CA, with an office in Conshohocken, PA, Poptent has been doing amazing things since its start in 2007. In basic terms, the company combines two powerful trends in video production, creation and distribution. Rather than using traditional models, where clients such as Seaworld and Cracker Jack turn to advertising agencies and the same old creative directors for video creativ (from concept to content), Poptent specializes in crowdsourcing, connecting independent filmmakers with national brands. This allows a faster turn around time for…

Opening New Doors

Hello everyone. My name is Shayne Maister, and I have been pursuing an internship at Agency|51 in Philadelphia this summer. I really had no idea what I was getting into when I accepted the internship offer, but boy, am I sure glad I did. My time there, thus far, has opened so many new doors for me to venture into and learn about the different sides of advertising. As a creative (copywriter to be exact), I believed that the creative side of advertising took precedent over the accounts side, prior to beginning my journey as an intern. Working mostly with individuals involved…

The Beginning of my Adventure

Hello! My name is Eryn Foust and I am going in to my senior year as an Advertising major with a track in Account Management. This summer, I have been granted the opportunity to serve as an intern with Susan Graham Consulting located in Hershey, PA.  Susan Graham Consulting (SGC) is a consulting firm that specializes in IT. In other words, SGC recruits those seeking jobs in the IT field and places them with clients that are best fit for that specific person. While recruiting is not something I have any experience in whatsoever, SGC was in need of an…

Blog News

I’ve been interning at the PennSuburban Chamber for almost six months now. Time has quickly flown by! In that time period, I have learned how to write press releases, use Constant Contact, formed relationships with media outlets and made business connections that are potential assets to my future career! My interview at The Reporter went extremely well! I came up with tons of great pitches, each of which were warmly welcomed by editor-in-chief Ann Cornell. I started setting up the beginning stages of my blog (WordPress is a whole new ballgame). I even got the go ahead to buy my…

Finishing up at SquashSmarts

As my internship came to an end, I learned a lot. Though I did not work in an advertising agency, I was pretty much the agency myself because Squashsmarts does not have a marketing department. This was really nice because I was busy the whole time there. I started a lot of projects, of which only couple has been fully finished. I majorly worked with the re-launch of their website (still under construction), which took a long time because of all the transfer of the data. Since I have not finished all the projects that I started, my plan is…
