Get Inspired

As an art direction student in Temple’s advertising program I’ve often been consumed with moments where creative ideas seem completely out of the realm of existence. However, with a little help of our World Wide Web I wanted to share with you a few places to grab some inspiration while also being aware of the competition of other students who are going to be our competitors in the ever fearful job search. The first place (and homepage of my computer) is the Designspiration blog. It’s a fantastic resource for browsing all types of design inspirations. Designspiration was created in 2010…

Life’s Too Short For The Wrong Job

We’ve all had it, the classic advertising assignment of finding a campaign that we think works well. After spending an hour or so searching for a unique solution I found a campaign that I think is inspiring to us all as students and advertising students in particular. As a student who is graduating in December all I can think about is how to get a job but the better way to think about it is to land the job that I choose for myself. It seems hard in these economic times where jobs are scarce to not take the first…

My First MBFW

It’s fashion week in New York!! My company Zang Toi had finally presented his beautiful, romantic Spring 2013 collection at The Stage, Lincoln Center on Sunday night. It was a superb experience for me to be one of the crews at such big-scale fashion show, not to mention that I had the to see some of the well-known fashion legends. I am definitely fulfilling parts of my bucket list! We housed about 1000 guests last night and  there was a lot of preparation involved before a show that is only 15 minutes long. I was assigned to be at the…

First Friday at AIGA Philly: Heads of State

This past First Friday AIGA Philly presented Heads of State “10 Years of Rectangles.” The space was small, and the crowd was large, but the exhibit was still one that I’m glad to have seen. Everything from R.E.M. album covers to Penguin Book illustrations adorned the walls. I even had the chance to virtually talk to the creatives behind The Heads of State via a few snarky tweets regarding Little Baby’s Ice Cream. The exhibit runs now through September 30th, so check it out for yourself:

Social Hollywood: The Beauty Inside

I think I can speak for us all that at one point or another we have wondered what it would be like to be the main character of a movie. This is the key insight for “The Beauty Inside” a global social film collaboration by Toshiba and Intel starring Topher Grace and Mary Elizabeth Winstead and potentially, YOU! This campaign was brought to my attention by a fellow Temple Advertising student and good friend Holly Furman who strongly believes in inspiring others to do good advertising. It’s one of the things I like most about being an ad major here…

House Of Toi Angel

It is such a happy experience to intern with the noted fashion designer Mr. Zang Toi who based in New York City. Let me introduce Zang Toi briefly to everyone. He is the first Asian designer discovered by Anna Wintour back in 1990 and has been in the industry for more than 20 years until today.   My intern experience in House of Toi has been very delightful, interesting and fun. More to that I also get to discover New York City as a foreigner in this country. Other than working in his atelier, Mr. Toi likes us to join…

My time as a TEEN VOGUEtte

Being part of such a huge publishing company, Conde Nast, has been the most amazing experience of my entire life. Not only was it everything that I ever expected, it was more. I came in as a marketing intern, and left as being part of the TEEN VOGUE community as they would call it. The interns were treated like their family, and included us in every single adventure, brainstorm, event, etc. There are so many great things that happened, but I will share a few of my favorite highlights. Myself along with the 10 other interns upstairs on the marketing…

First day at TEEN VOGUE

It was May 29, 2012 when I walked into the doors of the Conde Nast building with dozens of other interns from various magazines. It didn’t feel like real life to me. I went to the front desk where I asked for my contact and was given a guest pass. When I arrived to the TEEN VOGUE floor, all that was in the lobby with a phone. I realized that I needed to contact the person when I arrived but her name was not on the extension list. It was almost surreal that I had to go about figuring this…

Interning at the March of Dimes

For the past few months I have spent my days interning at the March of Dimes King of Prussia office.  As this was my first internship, I was unsure of what to expect.  This entire experience from start to finish has not only pushed me outside of my comfort zone but has also helped me realize how much I enjoy working with people, ultimately opening new doors for career paths after graduating.  The March of Dimes is truly a lovely organization.  The people I have worked side by side with for this summer have taught me really how rewarding it…

John Varvatos Internship Update

Hello again, Tom McCann here. With my internship at John Varvatos wrapped up, I’m feeling prideful when I think of all I’ve learned. It is hard to stress how important I feel office experience is. Sure, we all see a caricature of offices on TV and in movies, but experiencing the synergy of a well oiled machine and becoming part of it is something that can only be experienced. I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to simply work at John Varvatos regardless of all the other benefits. One of these aforementioned benefits is a much better understanding…
