Working Hands-On

As advertising majors, we tend to talk a lot about concepts but we never really experience much hands-on work in the classroom. At my internship at the Temple Small Business Development Center, I received much more hands-on training. My favorite part of the internship was working on website builders, such as Wix and Weebly to edit and manage website content for my businesses. Although I did not have much creative freedom when using these platforms, I learned a lot of valueable skills about SEO, content building, and importance of detail.I also used a graphics website called Piktochart, which I discovered…

Events: Post-Planning Preparation

My name is Miranda  Krause and I am this Fall’s Community Relations intern at the NPR affiliate and non-profit, WHYY! The projects I’ve helped with the most this semester have been centered around assisting with the planned events listed on the events calendar.  For example, there was an event planned around the Indie Lens Pop-Up Film Festival for the documentary Autism In Love. Once this educational documentary was announced to be premiering, I put together the event page so it could be registered and posted to events sites such as Eventbrite, PhillyWeekly, UWishUNu, TicketLeap, etc. In doing this, I needed to only post the official copyrighted…

Inspirational People

At my internship I have worked under a few people who have inspired me to be a better worker. My marketing Director Stephanie has only worked at Sodexo for a few years and she has completely revamped the marketing department from what it was. Prior to her hiring, on-campus events were virtually non-existent, she started the Baker Dave brand. On top of that, before hiring interns she would handle all of campus dining service’s marketing all on her own. She is very inspirational to me because she can somehow handle the stress of an entire campus while still being innovative…

The Hidden Value of Reception

I’ve interned at Tierney for almost a year now and many people ask me what the most beneficial part of my experience has been. Since my internship has been so amazing I give them a long list of things I’ve enjoyed including summer intern projects, brainstorming sessions, secondary research and reception. That last item often confuses people, how can sitting at the reception desk for an hour every few days be one of the coolest parts of the internship experience? Well here are the top three reasons that sitting at the reception desk has been one of the coolest parts…

Learning Outside of the Classroom

During my time interning for the Temple Small Business Development Center, I learned a lot of valuable things about small businesses, marketing, advertising, and myself. To own and operate a small business takes a lot of hard work and determination. The two clients who I had the pleasure of working with both faced daily struggles. To be a small business owner you must be resilient. Sometimes you have to be able to drop everything, pick up again, and start a whole new marketing plan in the blink of an eye. SOS Daters, a dating coaching service, was the company that…

Learning Experience

Working at Sodexo this semester has been an exceptional experience for me. In only a few months I have become much more adept in the Adobe Design Suite, I have come to understand corporate structure and I’ve even networked a little bit across campus. In the time that I have worked here I have been promoted twice, not in pay but in responsibility. I’ve been put in charge of both the Temple Dining social media accounts and Baker Dave’s Facebook. I have learned a lot about social media and using it to a company’s advantage. This is beneficial to me…
