Sparkling jewels and email blasts

Ritual Ritual is a jewelry and clothing boutique in Northern Liberties.  When you enter the store, you are faced with a room teeming with shining jewels, sparkling rings, geodes, and scents of frankincense and myrrh. It shouldn’t surprise you that there is a lot going into the care and keeping of the boutique, the web store, and social media accounts. The store is owned and operated by Angela Monaco who also runs Concrete Polish Jewels, a handcrafted jewelry collection based out of Philadelphia. Ritual Ritual is more than a simple brick and mortar retail location on 2nd Street, it also serves as a studio…

PerformRx Internship

For the fall semester of my senior year I am interning at PerformRx, which is part of the Amerihealth Caritas Family of Companies. As a full-service pharmacy benefits manager (PBM), PerformRx works with health plans in order to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs. PerformRx offers clients both standalone products and services, as well as full pharmacy benefit solutions. Prior to starting my internship, I had little to no experience working in the marketing field, let alone anything having to do with medicine As an Ad major, I wasn’t sure how my experiences in copywriting and art direction would overlap…

Rhino Rumblings

Interning at Bad Rhino so far has been a wonderful experience for me. This full service, social media marketing agency specializes in analyzing current marketing competitors and trends online. The two owners, Marty and Rich, are just as fun as their business name! In fact, when I asked why they chose to go with the name “Bad Rhino”, Rich explained to me he really wanted an animal to be in the name, and Marty agreed that he would only start a business with him if he could come back that day with a killer name. And just like that, Bad…

First Photoshoot Experience

Hello fellow advertising bloggers! I am an intern at our very own Fox School of Business / School of Tourism Hospitality. I am working in the PR department, helping with general creative production. I help with editing/designing posters, designing/editing e-blasts, editing down photos to be sent out, photo archiving, and I even helped on a photo shoot! Since I am an advertising, creative track major, I am finding this internship extremely helpful. The photo shoot has been my favorite part of the internship experience thus far. It was very overwhelming at first when my supervisor Jodi asked me to be apart…

Horrible Bosses 2 with my NOT Horrible Boss

I am Hannah Clough, a senior in the copywriting track working as a publicity and promotions intern with Allied Integrated Marketing. I primarily worked on the Warner Brothers account. The project I spent the most time on was Horrible Bosses 2. It was “my baby.” For the previous film, Annabelle, I planned a few events, but my involvement wasn’t nearly as extensive as it was in Horrible Bosses 2. We planned several events where reps from our company “street teamed” (aka handed out mini posters to spread the word). In addition to those more generic events, we had a few…

The Last Blog Post. (Don’t Cry).

Richie Rich and the “theater” (say it like Kristen Wiig would on Saturday Night Live) might be vastly different, but the idea of fundraising and development have a lot in common with Macaulay Culkin’s best role (minus Home Alone or being Mila Kunis’ boyfriend). You have to not spend money, but HAVE money to make even MORE money. In the Wilma’s case, they’re non-profit, so making more money helps to create productions and advance its mission. And creating personal relationships with its donors and funders, then following up with those relationships, are the keys to sustaining people’s support. For the past couple weeks, we…

Never a Dull Moment in Q4 at Evoke

Q4 refers to the last quarter of the year, being September October November and December. These months are the busiest because there is a ton of work and budget to be spent before the fiscal year ends. Ironically, these were the 4 months I was chosen to intern at Evoke so I was able to experience the whirlwind. With only 9 days left of my internship, I had planned to finish out while working with the project management team – but in the midst of the craziness with deadlines and people working until all hours of the night, some things don’t…

Flashback Friday at CBS

When I was about ten years old, I was in love with Aaron Carter. I had his posters, all of his CD’s, knew all of his songs by heart, and even had dreams of marrying him one day! So when he came to CBS as a guest on Talk Philly one Friday afternoon, I needed to meet him. My ten-year-old self was very anxious and excited but when my twenty-year-old self met him, she wasn’t so star struck. We chatted and took a few photos and he was a very nice guy. All I kept thinking was that about a…

Sad to leave Famehouse…

Having worked here for a few months, I must say I will be sad to leave. It has been a wonderful experience at Famehouse. I have learned a ton of new things about graphic design, and though I am nowhere near the skill level of other graphic designers, I definitely know more going out than I did coming in. I have been able to work on projects ranging from photo edits to a mini mural painting to initial design of social media banners for clients. It has been rewarding to see some of the things I produce, on the Facebook…

Enjoying Marketing Events for GEICO

I am currently interning at the Local GEICO office in Wynnewood. Being an intern, I am given the opportunity to attend events of all kinds including ones for non-profit organizations, new/small businesses, sports games, and even concerts. I even just went to a Phillies game where I would have gotten great picture with some of the players if only my phone wasn’t stuck in “selfie mode.” My favorite events to attend are the Alex’s Lemonade Stand non-profit organization ones. I have gone to many of them and it’s always a ton of fun not only to help a great cause…

Show Them What You Can Do

This Fall I have learned so much and gained so much experience from interning at the Chestnut Hill Business Association. Interning at CHBA was not a typical advertising internship, but I learned more about marketing an entire town of businesses and the challenges that come with that. Chestnut Hill is a charming town right outside of Philadelphia and the Business Association holds events continuously to draw customers to their strong retail strip of charming shops. My job over the past couple of months has basically been coordinating our marketing for the various events that we hold. An event that I…

Not an Advertising Internship at Famehouse

The end of summer was a struggle before the beginning of my final fall semester at Temple University. I began applying for internships a little late in the game and felt pressure from all angles to make a decision on where to work. I saw a post that Famehouse was looking for a graphic design intern, and being an advertising student I assumed I would not necessarily get the position because there are plenty of other people with more qualifications. I decided to apply nonetheless. My first interview was on the phone with the Creative Services Manager. He asked me…

The Other Side of Advertising: The Brand

Way back in 2010 when I first started abandoning hopes of becoming an astronaut and started looking for a more tangible career I stumbled upon a documentary called Art&Copy. The film is a must-see (and probably part of the curriculum) for any advertising student, and made me consider —and choose— advertising as my major. However the film lacks to mention the larger world behind advertising: that of brand-focused initiatives that help make so many companies successful. Interning at Tag Strategies has been an amazing experience in the world of branding. Although Tag functions as a full service ad agency, its main focus…

Annabelle, Kill the Messenger, and Events, Oh my!

So, this semester I am a publicity and promotions intern for Allied Integrated Marketing. They have over 20 offices in the US and Canada. They primarily work in the entertainment industry, specifically for film studios. Before I started there, the intern coordinator contacted me and told me I would be working on the Warner Brothers and Focus Features accounts with Jesse, the director of the office. Since Jesse is the director, he is super busy, but that’s good for me because it means that I am never bored. Jesse likes to joke that he “has time for everything except the actual…

Shy Won’t Fly at Skai Blue Media

I’ve been shy my entire life. I tend to avoid situations where I have to talk to people I don’t know. Being anything but quiet and reserved is a struggle. This also affected my desire to show things I create to the world. My discomfort with talking to people manifested in a fear of not just me, but also my art, from being seen. In this industry, I’ve quickly learned that will not be and option. Shyness is not coddled in advertising. Landing an internship at Skai Blue Media was a dream come true. There is no bigger self esteem…
