Opening New Doors

Hello everyone. My name is Shayne Maister, and I have been pursuing an internship at Agency|51 in Philadelphia this summer. I really had no idea what I was getting into when I accepted the internship offer, but boy, am I sure glad I did. My time there, thus far, has opened so many new doors for me to venture into and learn about the different sides of advertising. As a creative (copywriter to be exact), I believed that the creative side of advertising took precedent over the accounts side, prior to beginning my journey as an intern. Working mostly with individuals involved…

The Beginning of my Adventure

Hello! My name is Eryn Foust and I am going in to my senior year as an Advertising major with a track in Account Management. This summer, I have been granted the opportunity to serve as an intern with Susan Graham Consulting located in Hershey, PA.  Susan Graham Consulting (SGC) is a consulting firm that specializes in IT. In other words, SGC recruits those seeking jobs in the IT field and places them with clients that are best fit for that specific person. While recruiting is not something I have any experience in whatsoever, SGC was in need of an…

Blog News

I’ve been interning at the PennSuburban Chamber for almost six months now. Time has quickly flown by! In that time period, I have learned how to write press releases, use Constant Contact, formed relationships with media outlets and made business connections that are potential assets to my future career! My interview at The Reporter went extremely well! I came up with tons of great pitches, each of which were warmly welcomed by editor-in-chief Ann Cornell. I started setting up the beginning stages of my blog (WordPress is a whole new ballgame). I even got the go ahead to buy my…

Finishing up at SquashSmarts

As my internship came to an end, I learned a lot. Though I did not work in an advertising agency, I was pretty much the agency myself because Squashsmarts does not have a marketing department. This was really nice because I was busy the whole time there. I started a lot of projects, of which only couple has been fully finished. I majorly worked with the re-launch of their website (still under construction), which took a long time because of all the transfer of the data. Since I have not finished all the projects that I started, my plan is…

Stay Afloat in your Intern-Ship

Julie’s “Interntips”: Ask Questions. Don’t be afraid speak up and ask your supervisor questions about your assignments.   It’s better to clear up any confusion than to do something wrong. Pack a lunch. I was excited to frolic about the city and try new food places on my lunch break but that gets expensive- fast. Recommendation: Cook large dinners so you can take leftovers for lunch to save some ca$h. Coffee. 9-5 is a long day; you’re going to crave a caffeine kick. Recommendation: Starbucks (it’s better than Saxbys). Don’t drink coffee?  Consider changing that. Look for inspiration. When designing, it…

It all Started in the Mailroom

Last summer at AmeriHealth Administrators (AHA), a top performing third-party administrator in the health care industry, I was a “Marketing Communications Intern.”  The summer before that, I worked in the mailroom. This summer at AHA, I’m not working in the mailroom or considered an “intern.” I’m actually an Associate Marketing Communications Coordinator working in the Marketing Communications Department, and I’m even training some of the summer interns this year. Basically, my career at AHA started in the mailroom. I worked a full-time position in the mailroom for about a year while going to Temple for their advertising program. Since…

The world of marketing at Defined Clarity

When I was on the hunt for my first internship, one of my professors gave me a little advice. He told me to make sure it’s an internship where I play an active role in the company. Don’t waste your time getting people coffee all summer long. Thanks to my summer marketing internship at Defined Clarity, I’m not spending my summer as the office Barista. Defined Clarity is a small startup tech company in Northern Liberties that has primarily specialized in website development and support services for businesses and organizations nationwide. Currently, however, they are in the process of rolling…

Getting the swing of things

Being an Art Director for a magazine is a lot of work, but I feel it’s very rewarding as well!  I’m an intern over at College Living Magazine, an ad space circular geared towards college students.  I have the assignment of working on anything that has to do with graphics or imagery for the magazine.  I’ve been really excited about some of the projects I’ve been given the task to work on.  One assignment I received was to create an ad for a new Salad Works they’re building in downtown Philadelphia.  My employer really liked my design and told me…

CBS/CW Philly Opportunity

This summer, I am participating in an internship program with CBS/ CW Philly.  Although I am assigned to the Sales Department, I can still spend time in other departments to learn more about how each one contributes to the television station.  As an intern, I have to take the initiative to ask questions or if there is a project that I can complete, otherwise I am left without any work.  So far, I have spoken with employees from the Traffic, News, Creative Services, Business, Public Affairs, and Research Departments, in addition to the national and local sales offices.  I am…

As my internship with Colle` Products is coming to an end, I am ready to take everything I have learned over the past six weeks with me, as new opportunities arise. My responsibilities with Colle` Products include maintaining social connections with other companies and the community through Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Colle` Products has also helped me improve my communication skills through e-mail and the telephone, as well as the opportunity to gain experience in a professional office and learn what its like to engage with others that share the same interests as myself. I also conduct research regarding upcoming…

How I’m trying to get my foot in the door

I work as a Web Design Intern at a company called ASTM International, and I really enjoy it. One of my projects was helping to redesign the website. They use a contracting company called Micronexx to do all the developing. A way we communicate about the project is through a website called Redmine. On this site, we can post to Micronexx what we need to be changed, updated, or created for the website. When I was first being introduced to the project, my boss sent me an email only telling me to register on the Redmine website. Later in the…

PennSuburban Annual Dinner & Awards Celebration

On Thursday night, I had the pleasure of seeing all of our hard work at the Chamber come to life. The PennSuburban Chamber of Commerce held their Annual Dinner & Awards Celebration at PineCrest Country Club in Lansdale. This year’s ceremony happened to fall upon the Chamber’s 100 year anniversary. In celebration of the centennial event, the Chamber presented Lansdale School of Business with the Business of the Century award. Lansdale School of Business is the longest standing member of the Chamber, contributing 95 years of service to the community. In addition to this once-in-a-lifetime award, seven others individuals and…
