Internship at Harmelin Media

Harmelin Media is one of the largest media planning firms in Philadelphia area. I was always interested in the media planning industry, thus this was a perfect opportunity. With real hands-on work, I was able to get valuable experiences. Everyone is so nice and approachable. My direct supervisor always tried to give me something to do so I won’t be left alone without any work. From that, I gained valuable experiences and insights that how the advertising media planning industry works, and how this experience functions in the society. This was a valuable experience that one cannot achieve in other places.

Thinking of the Future.

So as this semester comes to an end, I began to think about my plans for the summer. I had a great experience with my interning at IG-Creative and I talked to my mentor Chris Steward about staying for the entirety of the summer. He welcomed the idea. Because of the requirement of me being in the office a minimum of 15 hours to be paid for my time, I decided to quit my job at Express, and open up the time to something that will help me with my future. While being at IG-Creative I saw that they have…

Radio 104.5: Working Live @ Five and Studio Sessions

At Clear Channel, I have had the opportunity to meet several bands, big and small. I worked with the assistant program director, Wendy Rollins, to put on Live @ 5 on Fridays. Each Friday, a local band comes into the station to perform on live radio in the iHeartRadio Theatre. I greet the bands and help them load any equipment they have brought with them. I make sure they are on track to sound check in a timely manner so they will be ready to go live at 5pm. Later, I bring the band’s guest list to Clear Channel’s receptionist.…

Winning large accounts

Harmelin Media has various accounts that range from automotive to insurance companies. For Ford Fiesta, the firm was able to turn around the sales by planning which media to advertise in, and by refurnishing the direction of the advertisement. Also, by targeting young African Americans for BET awards on specific mediums, the firm was able to obtain the #1 cable award show title, guiding them to the peak. Also engaging on various radio buying tactics, the company  has lot of potential and future.

Trend Show- The Final Stretch

Nordstrom’s Cosmetic Trend Show took place this Saturday and was one of the most successful shows King of Prussia has ever had. Our customers enjoyed complimentary makeovers from artists that were brought in from different lines teams that travel all over for exclusive events. It was a great opportunity to work with Nordstrom as we organized and worked really hard to get people into the store for this event. We were busy working everyday to promote customers about the show where they could enjoy a beauty getaway with us at the store. I was both excited and relieved when…

Leaving in Grand Fashion

I feel like I know what I want to do with my career… it’s not a new feeling but, it’s stronger than ever before. Fortunately for me, I’m graduating from Temple in a week. I’m extremely anxious to make use of the time I’ll soon have, to concentrate on projects I’m actually passionate about. It wasn’t too long ago that I decided to declare my major in Advertising, in pursuit of work in a big-time agency. More recently, I’ve come to realize that the Madison Ave. life may not be what I need. More than an idea about how I’d…

Maebe Cloth

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, I guess my last semester is getting the best of me! That is no excuse though, since posting about art is way more fun for me than final exams I have to post about this new clothing company that I am extremely proud to introduce because they are two of my very best friends. Ladies and gentleman, I introduce to you MAEBE CLOTH. I have had the pleasure of watching this project unfold and never had a doubt in my mind that it wouldn’t be good. Maybe (no pun intended) I’m just bias, but their…

My Tribune to Photoshop.

I continued to look through Philadelphia Magazine and I came across an advertisement for a new resort in Atlantic City called Revel. The advertisement caught my attention because the advertising was very different. It had 6 series of advertisement focusing on the different parts in the resort. It has a main advertisement that shows different parts that relate to this specific resort. As you turn the pages you can see the campaign with different images and copy. The first advertisement has different objects that relate to the resort. The second one with the copy “up all night” has objects that…

Can Pubes Save American Apparel?

American-based “Hipster” brand American Apparel is well-known for three things. First, their severely overpriced, essentially cotton garments (leggings, dresses, v-necks, glittery spandex bodysuits, and the like). Second, they’re well-known for their provocative, borderline pornographic advertisements (see some examples below). And finally, American Apparel is well-known for having been in huge trouble business-wise for quite some time now. The company has neared bankruptcy on numerous occasions and seem to be doing whatever they can to keep their head above water. American Apparel’s newest gambit to to feature women with pubic hair. It began with cartoons, which was shocking enough, and has…

I Guess Copy is Really Important.

This week, I took a look at Philadelphia Magazine. Philadelphia Magazine is a location-based magazine filled with all the different things that are going around in Philadelphia. It includes large amounts of advertisements for companies that are around the Philadelphia district. When I was looking through the magazine, I came across an advertisement for Temple Heart Center, specializing in heart surgery. If you see the advertisement, you see the layout is divided in half by an image of a man and some copy on the bottom. This advertisement caught my attention because the photo they chose was kind of odd.…

Retailers Jump on Board with “Fashion Star”

NBC’s “Fashion Star” is a fairly new program with a somewhat old concept, not unlike that of Lifetime’s Project Runway. However, advertising is far more integrated into the show that its previous counterpart in several ways. The synopsis of the show is a competition for aspiring fashion designers to create clothing garments in hopes of making it big. The difference between Fashion Star and Project Runway is that Fashion Star winners have major retailers – namely Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue, bidding to sell the contestants’ garments in their stores, thus driving traffic to said retailers so that viewers…

Sara Cwynar: photographer

Sara Cwynar is yet another photographer that I have come to admire.  Her use of color is muted and beautiful. Check out those black and whites in the gallery provided though, the subtle features of the subject are so mysterious. Sara is also a artist in many other mediums, mainly graphic design. Her designs feel very.. 80’s, which is super fun! “Her work has been featured in The New York Times Magazine, 01 Magazine, and Bad Day Magazine. She is one of Print Magazine’s 20 Under 30 New Visual Artists for 2011. Right now she works at the New York…

Anja Verdugo: Photographer & designer

“Anja Verdugo lives and works in Portland, Oregon. As a photographer she creates film and digital images, working for local and international designers. Her personal work is often rooted in nature and feminine expression.” I wish Anja would bring more of her personal style into her commissioned work. As i sift through her website, I see that she does have a clear personal style, but that doesn’t show in her studio work as much. Her strongest work is definitely on location, because her studio work just feels a little cold and forced. I’m probably just judging a little too much, but I’m entitled to my opinion,…

History Repeats Itself.

This week I took a look at GQ April 2012 issue (the “special issue”). In it, there are tons and tons of advertisements and things that men need in the year 2012. When looking through the magazine, I found something really different. I came across a 1 page spread advertisement for Scion IQ. I never actually saw the car myself, but from the looks of it, it looks tiny. I guess through their research to find a way to campaign their vehicle, I think this question came up. Because the car is so small, doesn’t it seem like if you…

Dove Puts Real Women in Times Square

To further their “Campaign for Real Beauty” concept, Dove, a Unilever brand, is launching a campaign titled “Show Us Your Skin”. One component of the campaign is to feature the images of real-life, Dove-using women in New York City’s Times Square. These photos are certainly not restricted to head shots – women are encouraged to submit full-length shots of the skin they’re proud to be in. What message is Dove trying to convey with this campaign component? That women, especially through using Dove body/skin products, can be free to feel comfortable with their bodies. My prediction is that the company…
