Eraser Tool?

This week I took a look at Mens Health March 2012 issue. In this issue with David Beckham on the front made me think of something. As I was looking through the magazine I came across the advertisement for H&M with David Beckham. There’s been so much buzz about this advertisement because I guess girls love him (that’s besides the point). If you check out this website, it says that the David Beckham advertisement was the most talked about on social media during the Super Bowl. I kept wondering why there was a hole in his name. I searched and…

770 Behind the Line: The (unofficial) J.Crew blog

One blog I love to get a well rounded insight and inspiration from is the 770 Behind the line: (un)official Jcrew blog. Fashion, design, and photography all in one place. Yes, you can probably find that anywhere these days, but I am loving the color palates in particular. They also often talk to in house designers and other various employees, which is great because I will take any advice I can get! I try to make a point to pay attention to what the people that have my (hopeful) future job say. I’m probably not the first to tell you this, but always…

Magazine Covers Scale Down on Clutter

Have you ever felt like there’s way too much to look at on a magazine cover? Your eye darts every which way, oftentimes reading only a few words of one headline before your brain is distracted and drawn into another (Teeny-bopper magazines are by far the worst offenders – MILEY CYRUS JUSTIN BEIBER SELENA GOMEZ HOROSCOPES TAYLOR SWIFT TAYLOR LAUTNER TAKE OUR QUIZZES WHO BROKE UP THIS WEEK ?!!?) Two fashion magazines have plans to increase sales by decreasing clutter on their cover pages. Glamour and Harper’s Bazaar both want to scale down on the amount of content advertised on…

Museum Posters

Someone told me they liked my posts, (causing blushes and heart-eyes and head swelling galore), so now you’re stuck with my ramblings. I’ll try and keep it brief and image-heavy. I recently came back from a vacation to Europe, my first time out of the country and crossing so many time zones. There are many wonderful things over there that you just can’t get in America, like churches over 900 years old and decent croissants, but while there I saw of a fantastic poster that gave me an idea for a post here. Museums often have some of the best…

SO?

On the same issue of Us Weekly (February issue), I found another advertisement that I found interesting. It was a sweepstakes advertising for Stride and Trident gum. Well, come to think of it, it may not be that interesting however, it just caught my eye because I think they did a bad job with the image. Supposedly, Stride and Trident gum are having a sweepstakes of how you can win $50. You just buy a pack of gum and you have a chance to win $50. This is all fine but the image they chose just caught my eye. It is…

An ad For Female Eyes Only – Literally.

A new kind of creative OOH tactic has debuted in the UK: it’s part bus shelter, part advertisement, part facial recognition software. “Plan UK” is a charity that benefits young women struggling in developing countries, and its newest out of home campaign is for female eyes only – literally. When an individual approaches the screen, an HD camera uses advanced software to determine whether or not the viewer is a man or woman (the technology is said to be about 90% accurate). Women see one message – what The Plan’s mission is and how they can help. When they camera…

Minority Leadership! – Comcast Launches 4 New Networks

Comcast announce its plans to make a change in the cable television network by launching  4 NEW networks! Starting soon as early in April 2012! The headliners are Magic Johnson (retired professional basketball player), P. Diddy (entrepreneur), Robert Rodriguez (film director), and Constantino “Said” Schwarz (Spanish language tv veteran).  What’s more important is the minority representation! Johnson will lead a network called Aspire, a program focusing on African Americans and their inspirations. Diddy’s network, Revolt, will also focus on African Americans, but its content will be primarily about the music industry and its news. Rodriguez’s network, El Rey, will focus on…

Elizabeth Weinberg, Photographer

Recently discover yet another photographer that makes me insanely jealous. Elizabeth Weinberg is a photographer based in Brooklyn, NY but travels to Los Angeles often. Some of her clients include: NYLON, New York Magazine, Pac Sun, Rolling Stone, Starbucks, Target, and many many more. She creates images that really make you feel like you are right there with the subject. They feel like snapshots from any point in time of anyone’s life. I love when photographers are able to create a career out of shooting what they love. Most of her photos used in ad’s dont look like advertisements per…

The Neiman Adventures: The Creative Jungle

Hello, here’s Xand Griffin, with Part Two of The Neiman Internship Adventure. I’m an art director, and a large part of our job is concepting ideas. As this is my first internship, I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t even really know how advertisers go about creating ideas like “Got Milk” or “Just Do It”. Different agencies may have a different process, but ours is to write everything down and tack it to the wall. That way, no matter if an idea is stupid or brilliant or an idea starter, it’s there and you won’t ever have to backtrack. You…

Design with the Product in Mind.

In the current issue of Us Weekly (February 2012 issue) with Whitney Houston, I came across an interesting advertisement. We all know and love Tic Tac. They are bite size candy/mint that you can carry around and pop one in when you want it. In Us Weekly, there was an advertisement for Tick Tac with the headline “Shake it up”. As you can see from the advertisement, they give you fun facts that are actually made out of little Tic Tac’s! I thought this was so cool. I can see this being a campaign where they make all different kinds…

Let’s Talk Pinterest for Marketers

Though established back in 2010, online social scrapbooking site Pinterest has gained wild popularity in the past few months. As a huge fan of Pinterest for quite some time now, I’d like to dedicate this entry to discussing how Pinterest has the potential to, with very little effort, nurture a brand’s popularity with just a few pins + shares. For those of you who haven’t been exposed to Pinterest, here’s a brief overview of how it works: The user starts out by creating a free account through requesting an invite, or accepting a friend’s invite (which is much faster).…

Lauren Dukoff

There is no doubt in my mind that you all have seen Lauren Dukoff’s work. My goal on this blog is to give the artists behind the scenes the credit they deserve. I’ve been guilty not knowing/caring about the artist behind the masterpiece. But that is over for me, if I see something I like, the first thing I do is research who was behind it. Lauren Dukoff is an American photographer living and working in Los Angeles. She has photographed everyone from Beyonce to Beck. One of her most well known photos is the cover of Adele’s “21”. Her…

Valentine’s Day is all about love. It doesn’t matter if you spent it with a significant other, with family, with friends, or with your pet. LOVE is everywhere.
