The AD industry: Stress, but Great Rewards

Throughout my whole experience as an account service intern at Tag Strategies, the internship has taught me how valuable it is to apply the knowledge you learned from the classroom into the real world. It has also taught me that every branding firm and agency is different. Whether its big, small, or medium sized, each agency has a different goal. What I really like about Tag Strategies is its mission in finding the “It” factor in every client. What will make each product differentiate itself from other competitors? My advice? Stay on top of current events and trends. A Youtube…

Party Like It’s 1929

For the past couple of months I’ve been an intern at a Philadelphia food tour company called (oddly enough) City Food Tours. The company sells tours around different neighborhoods in Philadelphia that involve not only sight seeing and history lessons but also savoring  the eclectic foods our city has to offer. There are other companies like it in the US (including an affiliate in New York City owned by the sister of Philly’s CFT owner) but there is none like it in Philadelphia proper. So far, my time here has been quite interesting. My main tasks involve tour promotion, tour…

A pleasant surprise

I have been continuing my first internship here at Finch Brands for a few months now .  Finch Brands, for those who aren’t familiar with it, is a Philadelphia based boutique branding agency located in Old City near 3rd and Chestnut street.  For me Finch Brands was a perfect fit for what I needed out of an internship.  Finch is a smaller business, but they work in all parts of advertising including creative, strategy, research, account management etc…  This means I get a little experience in everything. Coming Out Party At: I-g Creative

This past semester, I have been interning at I-g Creative.  I-g Creative is “an entertainment marketing and online publishing agency specializing in the creation and management of online networks and communities.”  I received this offer in the summertime and I was more than thrilled to continue my studies at an actual agency. I-g Creative promote their clients through social media, designs and events.  It is a fairly new agency geared towards the local community and I was attracted by that because I love Philly. Tonight, they are having a coming out party at their new office in Northern Liberty, 1021 N.…

Sandy & Social Media

Unfortunately this past week the East Coast experienced the wrath of the super storm Sandy. Leaving millions of people without power and thousands without homes, the social media frenzy began growing in size alongside the hurricane.  It was no surprise that the twitterverse and news feeds were exploding with breaking news coverages, updates from the shoreline, and support from the entire nation. One New Jersey resident I spoke to reported that the only way he got his news was via Twitter on his smartphone and that is when it occurred to me to research just how big a role social media…

Marketing PHL, Discovering PHL

Before I started my senior year here at Temple, I came to the sad realization that I didn’t know nearly enough about the city I’ve been living in for three years. What is NoLibs? Where is NoLibs? Can I even name half of the other neighborhoods? I needed to branch out from campus and my urban exploration was well overdue. That was what most compelled me to take a Marketing/Communications internship at the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PCVB), because they are the official tourism promotion agency for the city of Philadelphia. At the PCVB, I have been learning so much…

TED: Ideas Worth Spreading

As my December graduation draws nearer I find myself being bombarded with advice to get the upper hand on entering the world of advertising. I am sure you have heard it is extremely important to keep up with news in the advertising world about what campaigns brands are executing and which agencies are taking on new clients but I feel that taking some time out of the day to listen to TED talk or two on your way to class can be more beneficial and inspiring than all the rest. So what is TED you ask? It is a nonprofit…

Release Your Inner Bond

We’ve all been there, sitting in our advertising classes trying to think of some unique way to promote brand awareness or sell the product. They key is to do something people will remember and appreciate. This is not news to the James Bond franchise which is preparing for the release of the newest movie, Skyfall. Several Brands Drop Armstrong Including Nike

As an advertising student here at Temple University, the concept of celebrity endorsements its often taught in the 1000 level classes. We learn that brands create a voice and often times will use an iconic celebrity to support their brand and form a close knit bond with it and create loyal brand followers. Lance Armstrong did just that for Nike during their long relationship. After allegations that Lance Armstrong had participated in doping he was striped from his Tour de France titles banning him for life and Nike gave him the boot as well. Nike along with the other brands…

The Future of Advertising

Where creative meets compromise and potential meets promise- “Teaching High School Advertising” is like no other course at Temple. It’s a place where minds, specialized in different subjects, come together and contribute to success on both a personal level and a collective one. Being the only one in the class to have experienced a project like this, it’s a privilege to be involved for the second time.  Being a part of the course’s construction from the ground up, has given it a special place in my heart. As peer teacher, the most enjoyable aspect is learning. It’s the insight shared in class discussion as everyone brainstorms…

Making a Magazine: Not Your Average Internship

Since last fall, I’ve been a Graphic design intern at The Village of Arts and Humanities on 10th and Germantown Avenue (wander four blocks Northeast of Annenberg- when you see the mosaic gardens and murals, you’re in the right place). Last year I designed the first issue of CRED magazine under the direction of the Editor-in-Chief and The Village Communications Director (as well as Temple Ad Professor), Aviva Kapust. Check out a few layouts and the cover below: This Fall, I collaborated with a former Temple advertising student, Rebecca Blessing to design the third issue of CRED under Aviva’s direction. Four weeks ago,…
