Shine On

As my internship with Colle` Products is coming to an end, I am ready to take everything I have learned over the past six weeks with me, as new opportunities arise. My responsibilities with Colle` Products include maintaining social connections with other companies and the community through Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Colle` Products has also helped me improve my communication skills through e-mail and the telephone, as well as the opportunity to gain experience in a professional office and learn what its like to engage with others that share the same interests as myself. I also conduct research regarding upcoming…

How I’m trying to get my foot in the door

I work as a Web Design Intern at a company called ASTM International, and I really enjoy it. One of my projects was helping to redesign the website. They use a contracting company called Micronexx to do all the developing. A way we communicate about the project is through a website called Redmine. On this site, we can post to Micronexx what we need to be changed, updated, or created for the website. When I was first being introduced to the project, my boss sent me an email only telling me to register on the Redmine website. Later in the…

PennSuburban Annual Dinner & Awards Celebration

On Thursday night, I had the pleasure of seeing all of our hard work at the Chamber come to life. The PennSuburban Chamber of Commerce held their Annual Dinner & Awards Celebration at PineCrest Country Club in Lansdale. This year’s ceremony happened to fall upon the Chamber’s 100 year anniversary. In celebration of the centennial event, the Chamber presented Lansdale School of Business with the Business of the Century award. Lansdale School of Business is the longest standing member of the Chamber, contributing 95 years of service to the community. In addition to this once-in-a-lifetime award, seven others individuals and…

Interning for a Month

My name is Karly O’Toole, I have been interning for Vizion Group in Berwyn PA working with two non-profit organizations.  I also have two other jobs so I have been spreading my time out trying to get everything in.  The experience thus far has been interesting!  Working for a nonprofit organization causes a lot of stress and a lot of work.  So far I have learned many different things, one being that you cannot fall behind in work!  Since there are so many different events that go into this organization there are a million different letters, phone calls, organizing, excel…

The rewriting process

Luke Sullivan, veteran copywriter and author of Hey Whipple Squeeze This: The Classic Guide to Creating Great Ads, states on his blog, “100% of everything you create in this business will be second-guessed and 95% of it will die.” Well, I recently took part in meetings where a first piece of copy in a campaign written by a team of copywriters from an affiliated insurance company took that same exact route: the piece was second-guessed, and completely died. This didn’t happen throughout a typical series of agency/client meetings either. This happened during a series of new partnership meetings between two…

What’s a media kit?

In the beginning of my work week I was asked to do a media kit for one of the employees at Skai Blue Media. I didn’t know much when it came to making a media kit and really what it entailed but after a few searches and talking one on one with my supervisor I became a media kit pro. Basically this kit was a visual way to show her clients who she is working with under Skai Blue Show. I had to showcase four different clients where on each individual page I put about them, their press mentions, social…

An Internship Soon Ending but Never to be Forgotten

Unforunately, my internship at Townsquare Media-AC is coming to an end. I enjoyed my sales internship for the five radio stations and am sad say goodbye to my cubicle and my fun friends. It was fantastic to be surrounded by fun and intelligent people here at Townsquare Media. I had the opportunity to work on a successful team and add valuable contributions. I worked on things like excel spreadsheets, proofreading, binding presentations together, and researching clients. I even got to ride around with the Sales Manager making sales! I feel like I got a real glimpse into the way the…

My First Internship Experience

I love my internship so much!  I’m a current intern at college living magazine.  It’s a great opportunity for me being an advertising major because I’m doing so many hands on things.  I’ve basically been put in charge for the art direction portion of the business.  This includes designing business cards, editing contracts and media kits, designing and posting various coupons to the main website, and a bunch of other things too!  This internship has given me the chance to learn about the work of a real art director versus just being an intern, and I think that it’s awesome.…

Doing Great Work at an Internship

Everyone wants to impress his or her boss by doing outstanding work at an internship. But how do you know when the opportunity is there? I work as a Web Design Intern at a company called ASTM International. My main task at my internship is to reorganize and redesign the company’s intranet site, currently over 400 pages in a confusing and cluttered navigation. On my first day, my boss gave me a useful book to read, Don’t Make Me Think, by Steve Krug. This book has great advice and information about web interaction and usability. He lent it to me…

Lessons I’ve Already Learned At My Internship

I am currently working as an intern at Townsquare Media-AC as an Advertising/Business intern in the sales department. Their five radio stations are Cat Country 107.3 FM, Lite Rock 96.9 FM, SoJO 104.9 FM, ESPN 97.3 FM and WPG 1450AM.  I’ve learned a few valuable lessons just in my first few weeks at Townsquare Media-AC. The things I have learned I will remember for the rest of my working life, such as: 1. Save all your work… in more than one place. I learned to back up my work after losing everything I had done in my first 15 hours spent at…

SquashSmarts: Giving Kids Their Best Shot.

Hello everyone! This is Jay reporting from SquashSmarts. To begin, I started interning here about two weeks ago and I have learned a lot already! SquashSmarts an after-school program that recruits students from Philadelphia’s public schools to help them with academics and sports and keep them in track for graduation. This program started in 2001, and was specifically designed to keep students in school. Since Philadelphia has one of the highest high-school dropout rates, SquashSmarts became an antidote for that. This program is free, and recruits students based on their commitment, effort and attitude. SquashSmarts recruits 5th and 6th graders, and…
