I Could Have Done So Much More If Mad Men Was On.

Michael Phelps listened to Lil’ Wayne before races during his record-setting 2008 Olympics.  Coaches will show clips of Rudy and Hoosiers and NFL Hall of Famer John Randle liked to get slapped in the face as hard as possible by an equipment manager.  There are many ways to hype yourself up for the job, to get yourself in the right mental state to do the things you need to do to succeed.  Sometimes all you got is a vague and abstract determination somewhere deep inside you and sometimes that’s all you need. What I like to do is watch movies…

Internship Blog Post 3: I Should Be Better At Headlines By Now.

Seeing all these blog posts that start  “So my time here at ____ is coming to an end and it’s been great…” makes me really want to write about something else.  But I’m a hypocrite, and my time here at 160over90 is coming to an end, and it has been great, so what the hell. I’ve got about 4 more hours until my exit interview, I’ve pretty much completed all my projects I’ve been working on, and it’s too late to start any new ones.  So, Temple Advertising community, why don’t you join me in a practice that I’m sure…

Philadelphia Wings Public Relations

Everyone knows that the Wells Fargo Center is home to the Philadelphia Flyers and the Philadelphia, but did you also know that it is also home to the Philadelphia Wings, Philly’s professional lacrosse team? Maybe you already did, maybe you didn’t, but I know when I first started my internship I had no clue Philly even had a lacrosse team. Throughout the internship we were required to attend every Wings game to help with in-game promotions. I also help with in-game promotions for the Flyers and they are worlds apart. Obviously the Wings are a much smaller team in comparison…

Live Nation: Behind the Scenes…

Currently I have an internship at Live Nation Philadelphia. I have been interning here since January 18th, and it has been an eye-opening and fun experience. Currently I am a marketing intern there, and I help organize all the different costs that go into marketing various shows hosted by Live Nation. The main venues that we cover for marketing expenses are Wells Fargo Center, Susquehanna Bank Center, Theater of Living Arts, Tower Theater, Borgata, and Festival Pier. One of the amazing perks of being an intern here is free concert tickets! There are certain concerts that are off limits such…

Missing my internship already!

My internship with MayoSeitz Media ended on a very sweet note. To tell the truth I had the best ending possible! MayoSeitz’s Media owners Mr. Seitz and Mr. Mayo throw cinco de mayo parties every year and invite clients and vendors. During my last day I got to meet different clients and vendors that showed up to the Cinco de MayoSeitz party. Many vendors from CBS radio, Steen, Lamar, showed up in order to try to sell some stuff to the people at the office. Many of those account executives were there for about 30 minutes so the media planners…

Take Advantage of Philadelphia!

Somewhere cool that I got to visit through my internship at Philly2night, was a quaint little restaurant set right in the heart of Queens Village in Philadelphia, called Village Belle. This place is filled with beautiful mahogany, antique lighting and comfortable seating. The chef, Louis Campanaro likes to draw inspirations for his food from bold flavors of the Mediterranean and tweaks his recipes based on the changing of the seasons. When the internship director and myself went to visit this restaurant and get a story on it, Louis, the chef made us a secret recipe of his mothers homemade delicious meatballs.…

Complex Marketing Department at Comcast- Spectacor / Flyers Internship. What’s good.

Hi everyone! My name is Ashley Kormos. I am a junior at Temple University and this semester I have started an internship with Comcast-Spectacor in their Complex Marketing Department. On the side I also do in-game promotions with the Philadelphia Flyers which is pretty cool, but not nearly as beneficial as my first internship. I started with Comcast-Spectacor the first week of January, and so far I am in love with it, but it definitely keeps you busy, to say the least. I am in the office from 9-4 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and also have Flyers games most…

Yay! Summer Internship at Live Nation

So I have been interning in the marketing department at Live Nation this Spring semester, and I have really learned a lot. I didn’t realize how much goes into just producing one concert. I am really happy right now, because my boss offered me a summer internship! During the summer, Live Nation is the busiest because this is when a lot of shows go into production. I am looking forward to seeing a ton of concerts. A few shows that I will be going to are the Roots Picnic, Sade with my mom, and the Chelsea Handler comedy tour with…

Have an Open Mind and Something Good Will Come Out of It!

I intern at an Marketing and PR firm called Philly2night where they do promotional events and promotional material on the website for the companies that they sponsor. Philly2night knows whats going on in the city of Philadelphia and posts the news everyday on the website to keep its followers informed. Originally, to start off my blog posts I wanted to express my overall feelings about interning at Philly2night and even though my feelings may have been a little negative, I don’t want it to seem like I didn’t enjoy my time working there. I just don’t believe that interning there…

Intern Somewhere That Is Useful to You!

I intern at an Marketing and PR firm called Philly2night where they do promotional events and promotional material on the website for the companies that they sponsor. Philly2night knows whats going on in the city of Philadelphia and posts the news everyday on the website to keep its followers informed. Originally I used to be a journalism major before I decided to switch to advertising spring semester of last year. When looking for an internship for advertising I couldn’t really find one that I liked enough or one that I was even eligible to take because I’m not that experienced…

Only the Beginning

As other interns are winding down at their places of work for the Spring semester, I was lucky enough to be asked to stay over the summer at mine- Temple’s Office of Sustainability and of course I accepted! I honestly believe that working there gave me insight into not only what it’s like working in an office and giving your client what they want, but I learned a great deal about myself. When I first was debating if I should take the job, having no experience with environmental studies or anything of that nature, I was very hesitant, but now…

Gay Consumers Then and Now

GLITTER AND BE GAY: I recently have taken a look into the gay consumers group and would like to discuss my findings with you. First of all, it seems many of the advertisements based on gay consumers are so stereotyped. While conducting my research I discovered the top products that are advertised to gay consumers are: . Alcohol . HIV Drugs . Websites . Clothing . Travel Destinations Advertising for gay consumers is also focused so much on sex: . Homosexuality is much more widely accepted and yet the gay community is still being marginalized by mainstream society. “Gay, lesbians…

Bobos Invade our cities, then leave.

Since the 90’s the Bobos have been invading our cities and changing the way they look.  Bobo is a term which combines the two words Bohemian and Bourgeoisie; these two words seem as though they would never be put together, but this consumer group has values and ideals from both sides of the spectrum.  Their motivations combine those of the liberal idealists of the 1960’s and entrepreneurial materialists of the 1980’s (Brooks, 2000).  The Bobos have not only changed the way which advertisers must communicate with the consumer, but have changed the look of the business world. Karl Marx has…
