Conclusion of a Wonderful Experience!

Hello! My name is Heather Kasprzak and I am finishing up my internship at Nassau Broadcasting. Our specific branch mainly takes care of three local radio stations: 99.9 The Hawk, 107.1 The Bone, and 1230/1320 ESPN. Honestly, I am sad that this experience is coming to an end, and that means so much to me. I enjoy the work I do and the people I work with. I have always enjoyed doing ‘artsy’ things as a hobby, but was worried that after doing what I love for a hobby as work, it would lose its appeal. I felt that being forced to create something which I had no real desire to would result in bad final products and push me away from my passion. However, after working at the radio stations and creating media kits, flyers, and other publications, I have come to realize that I love this type of work! Every time I am assigned to create something new, I am determined to make it look as great as possible and do the best I can for the company. That is perhaps the best thing I have learned from this internship: that this is something I would love to do for the rest of my life.

One of the most exciting things for me as I leave this experience is all of the work which I now have for my portfolio. Before starting, I only had a few things which I created for class projects or just things I have done on my own. Now I have actual pieces which are being used by the company and being given to clients. This in itself is determination to for me to do well, find a good job, and strive to be the best. I love seeing my work being used and having everyone looking at it.

Overall, this experience was better than I thought it would be. I was excited to first start the internship, but really had no idea what was in store. Everyone that I worked with was extremely helpful and interested in my wants. There were multiple times throughout the internship that I was asked what else I wanted to do and what I wanted to experience so that they could help me gain as much as possible from our time together. Recently, I asked if I could see more of the actual production because that is something I have always been interested in. I was able to see how the commercials are made, and even got to do the copy for a commercial airing on our station. Copywriting is something I have never really been interested in; however, it was good to experience it and to be able to say that I have done it. Honestly, copywriting was better than I thought it would be!

This internship strengthened my desire to work in this field. It also made me realize that I would love to do some other things which work with people more directly. The promotional events were some of my favorite times during this experience. Getting out there and meeting the audience made a huge difference in how I saw my work. I would definitely recommend this internship and I would be happy to do it again!
