The Franklin Institute- A Learning Experience

My time at The Franklin Institute allowed me to bolster my copy writing craft and learn new skills in email marketing and Excel. My boss Ben Harmer assigned me projects that allowed me to put measurable metrics on my resume. These projects included creating a Google My Business social media post for the special exhibit, Vikings: Beyond the Legend, which is being viewed by over 3 million prospects per month. Composing 5 email blasts, each were sent to over 180,000 Franklin Institute subscribers. Writing social media ad copy viewed by the Franklin Institute’s 600,000+ Facebook and Twitter followers. Life feels so surreal at the moment. Taylor Grissom, the senior Advertising major in the Copywriting concentration just completed her third, (and possibly final) internship. Every internship I’ve obtained has been in the entertainment marketing field, and this semester I had the pleasure of being the Publicity & Promotions Intern at Allied Global Marketing. Advice for the Newly Interned.

There is nothing worse than working and seeing no reward. When someone plants a seed they hope that it will grow roots and branches until the point where it can bear fruit. But, if the tree is baron then all the labor would seemed pointless in the end. Even if your internship is not compensating you for your efforts it is important that you generate value for yourself. Take advantage of the opportunities to learn new skills and programs that you otherwise would not have had access to. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about what systems are used and…
