An Internship with a Million Eyes Watching

Hello, I’m George Lock, a senior at Temple getting ready to graduate in May. For my internship this semester, I was brought on as an Instagram account manager for the company Fallen Media.

Working at Fallen Media remotely has been nothing but fun. I wouldn’t even call it an internship rather than just something I would find myself doing regardless. I just create and post memes on their Instagram’s in hopes to keep its engagement up, while also reposting posts from their other pages related to their shows.

I also make news posts for the pages I run. If something significant happens, I just put it into a template I made, post it, and keep it up for 24 hours. Above is one I did when TikTok was briefly banned.

While doing that, I also reach out and respond to potential advertisers, and this could mean a lot of things. This means someone could reach out to me trying to promote a dog toy, with a video already pre-made and ready to post. Or this could mean someone is trying to promote an artist with absolutely no remnants of a video to post. Usually, when they don’t have a video to post, that means I get to make their promotion free of charge.

Throughout my time working on these accounts, it’s been really exciting to see how my efforts directly impact engagement. The process of managing posts and interacting with advertisers has given me an understanding of how digital marketing really works in real-time. I’ve learned how to stay ahead of trends and how much data and analytics play a role in improving performance.

This experience has made me even more excited to go out into the workforce. If I can be lucky enough to find myself in a similar situation to the one I am now, it would be the dream. Seeing how brands and personalities grow through social media has been motivating. I’ve already started brainstorming how I can apply all these lessons to the next step in my career, and I’m excited to see what comes next!
