BREAKING: Internship At Schneps Media – Remote In Philly For New York

My experience working as a graphic design in news media. Reflecting on the work I've done and my confidence.

“Will be done asap.”

I can’t tell how many time I’ve slacked something of that sort in the last two months.
In the news media world, catching events and stories is like catching lighting in a bottle, and once you catch that lightning you have to work quickly to shut the lid to keep it in there. Relevancy flickers like candlelight, so strategic efficacy is so incredibly valuable. In my Internship with Schneps Media, I’ve come to learn this fact very intimately.

Though news media was not something that I’ve perused, the realm of publishing has always been one that I’ve wanted to experience, so I am really happy to have the opportunity to work at Schneps. It’s an amazing place full of talented reporters that go deep to tell stories that are most important in New York.

As a Graphic Design intern, I’ve had the pleasure of creating social media templates, graphics, promotional materials, and artwork for the print and digital editions of the properties underneath Schneps. My role has been to support the reporters on the social end, and also elevate the brands underneath the Schneps umbrella.

I’ve created new long templates for AMNY which has been seeing an increase of engagement, as well as creating mocks for redesigns of magazines. I’m also creating new systems to maximize output and streamline to creation process. Furthermore with all of this experience, I’ve learned how to communicate professionally with my co-workers in meetings effectively to voice my suggestions as well as connect with them.

It has been very exciting to work on these properties and see them grow branding wise; and despite not being directly in New York, working in Schneps has me appreciating the work that goes into the news media that is shared online and in person.

I applied for this internship to see my designs in the real world and leave an impact on people, and I’m very glad to say that I believe I’ve done that. If you’re someone who’s nervous to start an internship, be ambitious. Have ideas to share, and don’t be afraid. What you think is great may be that, so just say it. I believe confidence is the most important thing I’ve learned in my experience!
