Clear Channel Broadcasting: Radio 104.5
At the beginning of my internship I had no idea what to expect. I didn’t know if I wanted to get into radio. In fact, I had no idea what I wanted to do after graduation. I chose this internship because I thought it would be fun and I’d enjoy it. Well, after a semester at Clear Channel, I was right. I had a lot of fun and I enjoyed the experience so much that I plan to go back in the Fall.
I worked with Wendy Rollins, Radio 104.5’s Assistant Program Director for the majority of my time at Clear Channel. My daily tasks were things like updating the website, concert calendar, and adding new music into the station’s database. The really cool part was the Studio Sessions I got to help with. There were days I would come in to the office only to find out we were basically having a mini concert that day– or sometimes a few in one day.
I also got to help with Radio 104.5’s Winter Jam. I was part of a group that handed out samples of Pretzel Crisps to the thousands of listeners who came to the event. Pretzel Crisps was one of the sponsors for the event, and subsequently got to use the event as a promotion. Other interns helped by handing out Studio Session cd’s to the first 104 listeners who brought canned goods to donate to Philabundance.
I’ve made a lot of connections through this internship. I’ve met several people who work in the music industry and have been connected with others who have given me advice about my own career choices. The people I work with have helped me figure out different career goals and how I should go about accomplishing them. At Clear Channel, I have gained experience that will help me both in and out of the office as I come closer to joining the working world.
