Creative Intern at College Glasses
Hello fellow SMC peers! My name is Jean Alban, I am a senior at Temple majoring in Advertising – Art direction track. I have been interning at College Glasses since April and I have nothing but good things to say about my time there so far! College Glasses is a company that designs and manufactures completely custom sunglasses for universities, organizations, events, and corporations. They are in the midst of expanding their product line and becoming a bigger player within the promotional products industry.
The most important thing that I have learned from this internship as the in-house Creative Department Intern is to never be afraid to ask, whether it is about the company itself or the task at hand- that way things will get done and get done the right way. I have been very fortunate to be working directly with the Creative Director at College Glasses and could not have asked for a better mentor. She has taught me many things, whether it is on design composition or advice on life in general. I am excited to be a part of this company and it has been great seeing College Glasses grow throughout the year.
So with that said I leave behind some advice for those of you who are looking for internships:
1. Be proactive. Always have your resume and portfolio up to date, that way when you see an open position, you will be ready to apply at any given time.
2. Keep your options open. Apply to as many internships as you can and before you know it you will have to choose where you want to intern.
3. Free isn’t always bad. Don’t underestimate the value of an unpaid internship, if you do your job and make yourself valuable it will all “pay off” in the end.
Sounds like an interesting internship. Thanks for the advice.
