Everyone Loves A Good Challenge
My name is Shannon Vo, and I am a music blogger intern at WXPN’s The Key. By writing for The Key, I have been able to learn in depth about different artists and stay updated on everything happening in the music industry, which is very difficult to do. I’m very fortunate to have had multiple music-related internships. Out of all of them, I can confidently say that working for The Key has been the most rewarding.
My supervisor is the coolest guy I have ever met. I have never met anyone so knowledgeable about music before. He is always updated on everything that is happening, and honestly, I don’t know how he does it. Every topic I have received from him is different every time. I love going to my internship. I get to listen to music all day long and discover so many talented artists as well as go to some amazing shows. I’ve retained so much information on so many different artists that I could probably tell you stuff like what record label they are signed to, what they have released thus far, where they are from, if they are coming to town, what they are currently up to musically, etc.
Looking back, I remember being so excited, but so nervous to take the internship. I knew it was going to be a challenge. The whole internship revolved around being a strong writer which I was not. So many people read The Key and that put a lot of pressure on me. Over time, I started to get a hang of the music blogging life. Thank god for thesaurus.com. My supervisor was so patient with me, and that itself made my whole experience at WXPN so much better. Also, the people at the station were so kind and welcoming. I’m very thankful to have had the opportunity to work with so many talented individuals, and I’m going to miss riding the subway basically every day. Spending the $2.50, back and forth, was so worth it.
