For The Love of Advertising & Real Estate
Hello, My name is Nina Symone Freeman, I’m a Junior in the Lew Klein College of Media and Communications. Majoring in advertising with a concentration in account management and a minor in general business at the Fox School of Business. The only problem I had was trying to figure out how to bring my two passions together. This would all change during Christmas break when a friend of mine referred me to a real estate developer. I was then hired as the account management/marketing intern.
Two River Development is a small real estate development firm that focuses on buying, selling, renting, developing new construction and rehab properties in the greater Philadelphia area. I was hired to help rebrand the business by not only helping manage our many accounts but also to create new marketing and advertising. I wore many hats working at Two River, they’re a small company so there was plenty of work to go around. I assisted with keeping track of many properties we had from the time we bought the property, reconstructed, rented and sold. I assisted in securing property insurance, zoning permits, contractors insurance, and making sure there wasn’t any liens against the properties.
On the other hand, another part of my internship was to help rebrand Two River through advertising and marketing tactics. I started off by looking at the the business model, the current website and marketing. I took what I’ve learned in the previous semesters by implementing them into the business. I worked alongside my co-worker who helped find a graphic designer and web developer to create a new logo and website. This project also allowed me to direct a company photoshoot with the team for the website and social media handles. This project allowed me to practice my creative and management skills by taking full responsibility of the outcome.It was also my responsibility to create flyers for all the zoning meeting we had in the Grays Ferry area. I would have to door knock to get local residents to attend the zoning meeting to vote on building the properties in the area.
I am more than grateful for having this experience to combine my passion for advertising and real estate. Two River Development has given me experience and confidence to work alongside business professionals. It also challenged me to reach my full potential by learning skills that I didn’t know I could do. During this internship I also completed the Pennsylvania pre-licencing courses and I’m scheduled to take the Pennsylvania real estate exam this June.
