Inside My Marketing Internship: Key Takeaways

Marketing creativity

Hello, my name is Abby Jobrey. I am an Advertising Major with a concentration in Media Studies. This past summer and fall semester, I have had the amazing opportunity to work as a Marketing Intern at ECBM Independent Insurance Broker & Insurance Solutions, based in Media, PA. Having this internship has taught me what marketing for an independent company looks like in the real world.

Finding Inspiration in My Marketing Internship

My time working at ECBM has shown me the real impact that marketing can have on a company, specifically a smaller, independent one. I was inspired at work by how thoughtful strategies and personalized campaigns could help to connect with clients, build trust, and strengthen a brand. Every project I worked on, whether it be planning social media posts, creating blogs, or analyzing engagement data, showed me that marketing is not just about selling something; it’s about creating meaningful connections and being proud of what your company stands for.

Advice for Your First Internship

From my experience, starting your first internship can feel very exciting but also a bit scary and overwhelming at the same time. However, internships are one of the most incredible opportunities to step outside of your comfort zone and grow. My biggest advice to someone starting their first internship is to ask questions! Your company should be just as excited as you are to help you learn and develop during this new stage in life. Always seek feedback; it’s good to know what you’re doing well and where you can grow. Lastly, make sure to observe everything, see how your company operates in a day-to-day life, and how you are contributing to it. Stay open-minded and be prepared to adapt to this change. Internships are about finding out what inspires you and what you’re gaining.

Positive Aspects I Discovered at ECBM

Having my internship at ECBM gave me a firsthand look at the unique advantages of working for an independent company. I learned the value of having a close, smaller team where being able to collaborate and communicate is never difficult. This hands-on experience allowed me to feel a sense of ownership over certain tasks, such as blog posts, social media content, and analyzing marketing performances. I also really appreciated my supervisor’s openness to new ideas, which encouraged me to be creative and dive into a new challenge with confidence. Overall, this internship showed me that in a fast-paced industry, having a supportive environment and team can make all the difference.
