Interning at The Media Theatre
Hello! I’m Kate Malley, a senior at Temple University double majoring in Film and Media Arts and Advertising with a concentration in brand strategy. Since February I had the pleasure of working as a marketing intern at the Media Theatre.
From the moment I stepped into the Media Theatre, I was struck by the passion and dedication of the team. Working closely with the staff, I have gained invaluable insights into the unique dynamics of non-profit management and the theatre industry. One of the most exciting aspects of my internship has been the theatre’s upcoming renovation project and its endeavor to redefine its brand identity. As part of the marketing team, I immersed myself in researching the non-profit and theatre sectors, analyzing market trends, and identifying opportunities for growth and engagement. Through this process, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to the development of strategies aimed at enhancing the theatre’s visibility and relevance in the community.
This experience has also enlightened me about the importance of community spaces. With the increasing migration of daily life into virtual spheres for convenience, there’s a noticeable disconnect among people. Although I conducted a significant portion of my research online, connecting with community members during lunch breaks proved equally enlightening. Conversations with theatre patrons and locals not only shaped my strategies but also reinforced the significance of nurturing spaces like the Media Theatre, where individuals can gather and build connections. I am thankful for the opportunity to contribute to enhancing such a community hub and look forward to applying the insights and skills acquired during my internship in my future pursuits!
