It’s Not As Stressful As You Think

I can’t speak for everyone in here, but my experience as an intern was not as stressful as I thought it was going to be and I am very thankful for that. My name is Morgan Kovatch, and I was the digital marketing/social media intern for Co-People Creative Productions. Co-People is a production service company that specializes in directing, managing, scouting and running photo shoots for major fashion companies.

When I was accepted into my internship, I was anxious. Being a senior, a full-time student, and a full-time athlete, I definitely had my doubts on how I was going to survive Fall Semester. Since it was my first internship, I didn’t know what to expect. All I really knew was that the way movies and TV shows portrayed interns was not pleasant and I was scared mine was going to turn out that way.

Thankfully, it didn’t. My internship supervisor, Andrea, was only a couple years older than me so it made it really easy to connect with her. She went to school for film at UArts and had been working with Co-people for two years.  Andrea was their most recent intern so she created the intern guidelines and procedures for me. She was easy to approach, to talk to and to work with. Since she was a recent graduate, she knew what it was like juggling school work and an internship. Whenever I needed a day to catch up on school work, she was always very understanding of my schedule.

My internship wouldn’t have been as successful as it was if it wasn’t for communication. Communicating with your mentor, with your co-workers and with your boss about your school life and your home life is crucial. Developing a strong relationship with everyone within your company is a plus because they understand when you need a personal day or they can help you when you have a ton of work to do. It was awesome that they gave me a voice and a place to share my ideas. They didn’t just view me as an intern, they viewed me as someone with valuable knowledge that they could use to positively enhance their company.

Overall, I am very thankful that my first internship experience was with Co-People. I made new friends, learned a lot about production work, had a lot of fun and most importantly, worked hard. I thought I wasn’t going to be able to handle classes, school work, my internship and practice, but I did and you can too.
