Keep Thinking!
My internship at Maiden Media Group this semester has been nothing short of amazing. Not only did my experience provide me with a whole new outlook on what internships are all about, but it helped me to realize where my strengths and weaknesses lie, what I like (…and what I don’t), and a better idea of where I really hope to end up after graduation. My main supervisor, Janeane Tolomeo, told me something really important… and I won’t forget it anytime soon. She said to me, “It’s really important to remember that Account Managers need to do a lot more than just forward stuff to other people. They have to be thinkers, too… always coming up with new ideas or a way to make something better. It’s not enough to just be the middle-man.” This idea wasn’t something I hadn’t seen her embody before, but she summed up herself and her work ethic perfectly in those few sentences. Being a thinking Account Manager (and human being in general… she runs an awesome blog! See it here: https://philly-ism.com/) had been something she was demonstrating to me throughout my semester at MMG, and it’s something I want to keep with me and try to emulate in my future endeavors as an A.M. Yeah, it’s great to be organized and a good communicator, but that can only get you so far. Staying on your toes and looking for a bigger or better option for your team can surely catapult you to a higher position or a bigger company. Keeping up-to-date on the latest marketing and advertising efforts used by other brands and companies is one way to make sure you don’t hit a wall and stop coming up with new ideas. Take what you know or have heard about and mold it in a way that it can benefit you and your project!
