Marketing Outside of an Advertising Agency
This September I started my fall 2018 internship with the Barach Group for Berkshire Hathaway Fox & Roach. Going into this internship, I had no idea what to expect. I honestly had no idea what I was going to be doing at this internship. I was really intimidated because my previous summer internship was very casual (we were able to wear work-out clothes or even sweatpants) and this internship was in a professional building that shares a space with some Fortune 500 companies like Chubb. The first day I went in to the office, I ended up jumping right in. The feeling of being intimidated went away immediately. I was pleasantly surprised that I felt so comfortable in the office.
I also had a bit of a different advertising internship than most people in the program since I worked for a real estate company. At first I wasn’t sure if this is what I wanted to do because I knew nothing about real estate, but I needed to fulfill my internship requirement. This ended up being a great decision for myself. From stepping out of my comfort zone of advertising, I realized that I actually have a huge interest in real estate and doing marketing for something that I found so interesting, made things fun! Things that I dreaded doing in class, like social media calendars, and marketing decks were actually so much more fun when doing it for real estate. After this experience I realize that I would love to go into a real estate career, which is why I am so happy that I stepped out of my comfort zone. If anyone reading this is on edge about stepping out of their comfort zone for their internship, I highly recommend going for it, you could discover your new passion!
