My experience beyond the classroom.
I just finished my marketing internship with At Media. Being my first internship, I had no idea what to expect but what I got was an incredible experience I will always keep as my foundation for my career. I learned how a business runs, how to effectively speak to clients, how to contact people to get what you need, how to treat your coworkers, and how to be successful. I admire that they are always trying to improve and build their company. It’s forever growing and I can’t wait to see where it will be in 5, 10, or 15 years.
In an earlier post, I talked about how I thought I knew social media so well until this internship. At Media showed me how to use social media from a marketing perspective: how to capture an audience, how to keep their attention and how to post relevant information they’ll respond to. I also learned how to write effective copy. I thought that my copy skills wouldn’t matter in fields like marketing, PR or account management. I was so wrong. Not only do I need to learn how to write copy for ads but for an email to a client or a sponsor, for a brochure or a press release. Writing effectively is such an important aspect to any job in advertising and At Media showed me how to improve upon this skill. I also learned about SEM and other effective marketing tools, which will also be a huge help to me for my career.
At Media was a great first internship. They were willing to help, guide and teach me the ways of an advertising agency. This experience has given me an invaluable experience and the confidence to go after the career I really want. They gave me a foundation and now it’s up to me to build from it.
