My First Event Brought To Life
Good afternoon, I am Nasir Pittman, a current marketing/advertising intern at Boys’ Latin Charter School of Philadelphia, where I have the chance to rebrand all of the school’s social media platforms while also personally assisting the Senior Director of Academics with any social events or gatherings. Being one of the few boys who attended and graduated from the school’s first year of having a connecting middle school, it was a no-brainer to come back and give back to my community.
At my internship, I have had the chance to give my first presentation to all three bosses, showing my SWOT analysis of the school’s social media presence. Also, I conducted, filmed, and edited my first interview with the students, and planned and hosted my first-ever hiring event for both schools. This is the event that I want to highlight a bit more in this blog post.
The event was something that Dr. Alexis Rylander, Senior Director Of Education, had brought to me and told me when she wanted to have it and where. So, she left the rest of the planning and organization with me. From the first day I was given the task, I started to work on the flyer, which, to me, was going to be the most challenging part of the process. Once the flyer had gotten approved after being sent back to me countless times for slight tweaks and edits, I had the time to create the event on Eventbrite, where the eager teachers could RSVP and secure their spots for this limited event. After setting up the site with all of the fine details about the event, the flyer was posted and the event was a go! My last step behind the scenes was to personally email 35+ teachers who were already on our radar, so they had first picks of the spots available. The “Boys’ Latin Chat & Chew” took place on April 3rd, 2025, and it was so cool seeing everything that I planned fall into place. Some of the current faculty even showed up to give some of the more anxious teachers a sense of relief before talking to the Senior Director and both Principals.
Overall, I am happy with the outcome of the event. Thirty teachers showed up who had an interest in working for the school. They told me how much they appreciated the venue, the flyer, and the food – it really meant so much to me. From this experience of hosting an event, I’m walking away with so much new knowledge that will be beneficial in my future days of employment.
