Stepping out of comfort zone is not that scary
My name is Hyeonjoo Min, a junior, majoring in Advertising with a concentration in Account Management. This past semester, I had an opportunity to intern as a market research assistant for Won International, a small e-commerce startup company. Although a small company, my time at Won International provided a learning experience from how to use primary and secondary research to the importance of providing great customer service. My experience at Won International was truly amazing. This small-team environment, allowed for me to not only explore the different tasks of advertising and marketing while quickly integrating into the team.
Being my first internship and experience in a business setting, I was very nervous and worried that I wouldn’t be able to speak up or be good enough to be in a team environment. But it was totally different than what I expected, the people in the organization were intimate and generous and not intimidating but welcoming and making me feel comfortable and part of their team. I think I had a good start for stepping out of comfort zone. I am happy that I was able to get hands in experience at Won International, providing me with the confidence, experience, and skills to explore opportunities and experience in other companies as well.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I do agree that diving into your first internship experience can originally be a very intimidating task. However, I am so glad to hear that it was not at all as intimidating as you thought it would be and that you were welcomed to speak up and generously share what was on your mind at all times. It is a very comforting feeling to have that first internship under your belt because it certainly does provide you with the confidence to move forward and look into applying to more. Small advertising agencies are great because they do provide that intimate work environment that makes you feel welcome and like a true team member. I wish you nothing but the best moving forward!
I had the same experience as you! I was also nervous at first. Because I was not sure if I was going to good at social media or how I was going to be at being the only intern. So I definitely know what you mean. However, Im glad things went well and that you were able to step out of your comfort zone!
