Thanks EMBA Program!
Howdy – My name is Daniel Long, I’m a senior Art Direction student at Temple, and I had the pleasure of working on campus for Fox School of Business’ Executive MBA program as their graphic design and marketing strategy intern this semester. I have always been curious about the background work that goes into the programs at Temple, and to be able to help in the promotion of one within a department new to me has been incredibly insightful.
The Executive MBA program is a unique one, or it was to me at least. Class sessions are held one weekend a month, where students have the opportunity to both learn within the traditional classroom setting as well as participate in frequent, exciting networking opportunities. I commonly worked to create promotional pieces for these events, ranging from historic runs throughout Philadelphia to ping pong competitions all the way to trips across the world. I was unaware that opportunities such as these could be part of some of the educational programs at Temple, so I was pleasantly surprised to work with the program directors on making them known to the students.
The EMBA office space is located within the newly-renovated, Sky Walk-attached 1810 Liacouras Walk building, and it has been exciting to have an office next door to so many inspiring bosses. I have been able to utilize my skills to assist people holding a variety of positions within the office, and through this, I gained connections to freelance work for a few of my bosses. I have an interest in fashion, and one of the connections I made was to work for a clothing label that emphasizes the importance of designing for individuals with disabilities. Being able to make connections with those that share common drives was something that I will cherish from this position, and I thank all the leaders within the office that have seen my talent and want to highlight it in different ways.
This relates to one of the favorite projects I completed for the EMBA program, which was designing logos to place onto sweatshirts and hats for this semester’s Global Immersion trip to Israel. Just this past week, I was able to see the photos of the group all decked-out in their hats and sweatshirts, and it was incredibly gratifying to see people traveling and furthering their education wearing clothing that I had a part in creating for them to enjoy their travels in.
While my time may not be over working for the EMBA program, I can say that my first in-office position has been an incredibly pleasant one, in which I have been able to grow immensely. I have developed a better system of efficiency, communication, and care for the work I produce, and I cannot thank my bosses enough for providing me the opportunities to do so.
