This Semester Really Packed a PUNCH!
Hello, I’m Breanna Gaffney and I am a senior advertising major. This semester I had an amazing opportunity to broaden my horizons and work with PUNCH Media LLC as a PR and Social Media intern. PUNCH is a Public Relations agency located in Old City, Philadelphia that specializes in media relations, crisis management, and strategic communications.
Going into this internship I was very excited to learn more about the world of Public Relations and, as my internship comes to an end within the next few weeks, I am confident that I will be walking away with a lot of new skills and experiences that I will bring with me into my future career.
At PUNCH, I got the opportunity to be involved in so many parts of the day-to-day work that goes into running a successful PR campaign. One of the main responsibilities I was tasked with was the writing and pitching of media alerts and press releases to the right journalists and outlets. It involved a lot more research and careful picking than I expected it to, but it was definitely worth it when I got to see our clients in articles or invited to TV segments. I was also tasked with putting together and sending out media kits, which are gift packages or information packages about our clients used to promote their brand or products.
Another big part of my job was creating content. I helped write social media posts for both clients and agency socials. I got to see the beginning to end of creating and pitching events and photo shoots, which was so entertaining and a dream to be a part of. I even got to attend meetings with clients, which gave me a better understanding of how agencies build and maintain their client relationships.
What I appreciate most about my internship at PUNCH Media was how hands-on it was. I got to actually learn and do the work, contributing to real projects and being support for our team. Every day is different and that was exciting for me as I am not the type of person who likes routine. Overall, I learned so much at my time with PUNCH and my team and this experience helped me grow both personally and professionally as I prepare to step into the real world this May.
