Tough Season, Great Reward

My name is Dominic Jones and I’m a senior advertising major. Throughout this year, I was able to be a part of the Game Presentation Crew for the Philadelphia 76ers and their NBA G-League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, which I was able to count as my internship.

Throughout the season, I’ve become very interested in the realm of sports marketing. As a part of my job, we had to carry out the activations for the sponsoring brands, so we would work to bring their in-arena promotions to life and ensure deliverables made it to fans on time and in the correct locations.

I learned a lot about live entertainment and how many different moving parts go into putting on 40+ home games, mixed in with the schedule of the arena and how much goes into converting the entire building on a regular basis. It was also really cool to see how marketing played a role in the live sports realm. It made some concepts that I had learned about in my classes easier to understand because it was put in a context that was simple to me.

A valuable piece of advice that I would share when going into an internship is to be a sponge. I was always trying to help out where I could and because of that I learned how to be self-sufficient at the job. I always had the attitude that I wanted to meet at least one new person every time I went to work and at the end of the season I felt very fulfilled.
