What my Internship Taught ME
My name is Alana Barretta, and I was an intern at Chatterblast Media, a social media marketing company. The following is a list of tools and tricks I learned and can help everyone while at their internship. An internship is your key into the real working world in your field. Make sure you make the most of your time, where ever you are.
1. Always ASK questions. You are not sure of something? ASK. What I liked about my internship was that there was a young part-time worker that was able to relay messages from the bosses, therefor interns, especially me did not feel as if we were bothering the workers. It was easier to ask her. And when you do ask the big time bosses, do it confidently. No need to be ashamed of clearing something up. You will feel better about the task at hand and your work will probably be much better.
2. Always work on something, I was finding that some days I was coming into the internship without anything to do. Take on as many projects as you can. When you do this it shows that you are a hard worker, There were days I would take on 5 projects at a time and worked right through lunch. It gave me something to do and showed how hard of a worker I really am. Internships are a great way to build your portfolio and test your skills. The more you have to do, the more practice you get.
3.Interact with everyone in the office. I was lucky enough to work with a great group of people. Because it was such a small company, everyone was able to become very close. We would do creative lunches and all eat lunch together and discuss important trends in the social media world.
4. Stay positive. A happy work place means that you will enjoy what you are doing and where you are and there for your work will always be close to perfection.
