Bigger News Feed, Bigger Ads.
Today Facebook announced its newest plan to redesign its news feed feature. CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s idea is to create a news feed that acts as a personalized newspaper. The idea is that users will be able to persue streams consisting entirely of photos, events, music-related content or brand specific content from brands you like or public figures that you follow. In order to create this personalized newspaper, photos and ads that show up in your news feed will appear larger to attempt to be more eye-catching.
Bigger Ads will allow creatives more space to to fill with customized content in order to make the ads more appealing and eye-catching as they appear now in magazines and newspapers. This is a huge opportunity for advertisers to reach their target through yet another medium, although it could be risky for a number of reasons. Bigger ads could easily annoy users therefore negatively affecting a company. Also, the lack of creativity in these now bigger ads could also cause consumer backlash.
Facebook is also gaining a significant amount of revenue through companies who will take advantage of bigger ad space. Overall, this is a big opportunity to advertisers and companies looking to reach their target in a new and big way.
