Breaking Into The Music Industry

So, my experience is a little bit different than most. I’ve actually never had an internship, however, I’ve been working since May at an amazing company that I love, and my position is being honored as an internship for credits at Temple. I originally applied for the position of summer Digital Marketing Intern at Fame House but after a series of interviews ended up being brought on as a part-time Digital Marketing Assistant and I couldn’t be happier.

Fame House is a digital marketing and e-commerce agency located in Old City. We are a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, so nearly all of our clients are musicians however there are some exceptions such as music festivals, music-centered iOS and Android applications, and even YouTube personalities.

The day that I’m writing this actually marks my six month anniversary of working at Fame House, and I can honestly say that I’ve learned so much. I have had the opportunity to, for the first time, gain hands-on experience in the music industry, the field that I’ve always wanted to work in my entire life. I’ve gained knowledge in developing and maintaining a client’s brand and voice, social media analytics, data visualization, assisting in planning and executing multiple campaigns surrounding album and single releases, tours, and more.

Fame House has shown me the exact type of work environment that I believe I will thrive the most in. Everyone that I have had the pleasure of working or interacting with at the company thus far has inspired me more than I can even convey. It feels so amazing to be surrounded by and working alongside people who share the same passion as me and inspire me to work even harder and to stay on my A-game. Although everyone at Fame House works extremely hard, the company also feels very much like a big family and I’ve had the pleasure of being able to spend time with my coworkers outside of the office as well. For instance, last week for a team bonding event we did a scavenger hunt around Old City since we are moving offices to Center City in a few months.

Fame House makes it a point to celebrate every win, no matter how big or small. It only further fuels my passion and drive to hear Deb, the director of the marketing department, talk about how important it is to us to build real genuine relationships with our clients, and continue striving to be the best at what we do in the industry. My experience so far has been everything I had hoped for in more in a job, and I am excited to continue learning as much and gaining as much experience as I can here.

  1. This was a great read! As a student who is getting into the music industry, I would love to work for Fame House or a company similar to them. Glad to hear that you’ve had a great experience working with them! I currently intern with Steez Promo and they are trying to get me set up with another music industry internship soon.

  2. Wow, Ethan, it sounds like Fame House is an incredible place to work! I previously had an internship at Live Nation and there, I completely fell in love with the music industry and music marketing! I love how you mention that working alongside people who share your passion keeps you on your A-game, I felt the same way at Live Nation. It really pushes you to crank out your best work!
