Doing Good in Philly

Year after year, businesses turn to public relations for brand revitalization and to enhance and optimize their exposure. Skai Blue Media, a full-service public relations agency, specializes in doing just that.  With a large experience base, Skai Blue Media represents clients from a multitude of different backgrounds including retail, non- profit, technology, entertainment, beauty, restaurants, and fashion. By taking on each client with an individualized approach to garnering press and creating unique collaborations, the team is able to provide successful public relations campaigns for all their clients. Having been interning at Skai Blue Media for a little over a month now, I am learning just how versatile one needs to be working in the communications industry.

Because the PR world is a very unique and ever-changing environment, interns are required to stay up-to-date on the status of client campaigns. This is one of the things that I admire most about the team at Skai Blue Media; their ability to manage so many clients simultaneously. Although it’s hard to get personally involved in every project that Skai Blue Media is involved with, it doesn’t make me appreciate their innovative ideas and hard work any less!

Most recently, Skai Blue Media proudly partnered with other local community organizations to produce the first ever Philly DoGooder Awards.

What are The Philly DoGooder Awards, you say? The DoGooder Awards are a national contest presented by YouTube, designed to recognize the creative and effective use of video to promote the work of the nonprofit sector in catalyzing social good. Philadelphia’s first-ever local version is based off of the same concept, but gives community organizations the chance to get valuable resources to become more sustainable.

“Mission: Philadelphia is a center for excellence in social innovation, where for profit and nonprofit merge to create DoGooders. Centered on compelling storytelling and skilled resources, the DoGooder Awards is a vehicle that brings together multiple segments of Philadelphia’s diverse community, to enact positive and sustainable change.”

Five months in the making, the Philly DoGooder campaign wrapped up with a lively awards ceremony last week on February 21st. The project had paired nonprofits and filmmakers, in a bid to help local organizations spread the word about how they’re making Philadelphia a better place in more interesting ways.

The brainchild of David Gloss and Kevin Colahan of Here’s My Chance, Philly DoGooder was the result of a community effort.  Gloss and Colahan, alongside Mayor Michael Nutter and the current Miss Pennsylvania USA, crowned a handful of winners last Thursday night at the University of the Arts’ Hamilton Hall. Five organizations will now split $250,000 worth of services donated by local firms.

Getting to see the behind the scenes how much  hard work and collaboration goes into producing an event like the Philly DoGooder Awards makes me truly appreciate the chance to intern at an agency such as Skai Blue Media. Not only am I learning a great deal from their expertise, but it warms my heart to see that there are still good people out there who are trying to better our community. At the very least, I am proud to be even associated with Skai Blue Media although I was not able to personally contribute to the success of the Philly DoGooder Awards. I look forward to being able  to grow and learn with the knowledge I have gained at Skai Blue Media, and one day I hope that I will be able to give back to the community myself in such positive, creative, and beneficial ways.

  1. How interesting! I didn’t know that there was an awards ceremony for nonprofits! It seems like such a good way to gain publicity for them.

Skai Blue seems like such an interesting and positive place to work. Hope you’re enjoying it!
