Riding with Red Tettemer O’Connell + Partners

Hey there! My name it Mitchell Katz. I’m a third-year advertising major and general business studies minor at Temple. During the Fall 2013 semester, I will be interning in the Account Management Department of Red Tettemer O’Connell + Partners, a large advertising agency in Center City, Philadelphia.

It is a privilege to intern with such a prestigious agency. Recently, RTOP was awarded the 2013 Small Agency of the Year by AdAge and Top Agency in Pennsylvania by AdWeek, two major advertising publications. Their clients include Under Armour, Planet Fitness, Century 21, and Dial for Men among other big-named brands. Working with a talented agency has taught me a lot about the industry and the role of an Account Manager.

Many of my fellow classmates have told me stories about their internships. They do tedious, busy work much of the time. At the end of their experience, they are left asking themselves, “What did I learn?” RTOP does not allow their interns to feel under-worked or unrecognized.

Since day one, I have been doing real world. Much of what I do on a daily basis is client facing – this meaning my efforts is not only useful, but my work is also shown to the client. Some of the work I have done has included competitive research, creating digital strategies, content management and reporting for online competitions, and much more.

There’s also tons of perks at RTOP other than the learning experience. Some include:
– Free subway pass (obviously the #1 perk for a college student)
– The friendliest employees around
– Office cat and dog
– Amazing location in the heart of Center City
– An awesome 600-person party/networking event
– Free food on a regular basis
– Office yoga
– Multiple terraces with great views of the city (just look at the picture!)

So far, I consider my internship with RTOP to be one of my most enlightening and rewarding collegiate experiences. The first month has flown by in what seems like a week. I look forward to more new experience later in the semester.

In the words of RTOP, “Let’s Ride.”

  1. On top of great business experience – Free food..free septa pass..cat/dog office pets..your internship is a win win! haha

  2. This sounds like such an amazing opportunity. What do you think set you apart when you were applying to such a prestigious agency?

    • In my opinion, it’s building relationships, getting good experience, and being confident. I interviewed with multiple employees and hit each one out of the park with my knowledge of the industry and my passion for advertising. I think that if these things come through when you’re communicating with people both electronically and in-person, you’re golden.
