WMMR: Saying Goodbye…as an Intern

Hello readers! I am in the final week of my internship with 93.3 WMMR. WMMR is a radio station which houses one of the most popular morning shows in the country and it wouldn’t exist without the help of the Sales department. During the last few months, I have been the Sales Intern at WMMR and have learned information I could not have gotten anywhere else. One of the most important takeaways of my internship is that no two days are the same. One day, you can have an overload of work, whereas the next, you can have none. In a sales department, every day is different.

That was one of the biggest pieces of information I didn’t expect to be as much of a reality as it was. Some days I would come in to e-mails ready with work for me to complete. Other days, I wouldn’t have much more than the usual amount of airchecks to complete. Airchecks are an essential piece of the sales department. These are the physical proof of what the advertiser has paid for. Almost every day, I would have a sheet of airchecks I needed to complete before I left for the day. Besides airchecks, the work that I would complete varied from finding potential advertisers to photo recaps after events.

This internship has provided me with experience that is essential for my future success in this industry and I am very thankful for everyone in the Sales department at WMMR for being extremely helpful and welcoming every day I was there.

  1. Very interesting that your amount of work for sales varied and wasn’t consistent. I worked in sales for a couple weeks this semester and always constantly had new leads (cold or hot) to pursue. Maybe it might be different depending on what market you are in. Interesting to compare none-the-less.
