Creative Space for Creative People

“Business in the front, party in the back” – you know what I’m talking about.

This pretty much sums up the layout of DBC’s office space. We’ve discussed in many of our advertising classes the way that typical full-service advertising agencies are laid out. One floor for traffic, one floor for account services, another for creative, and so on. At DBC, the creative may not have their own floor, but everyone collectively shares one creative space. In the front of the office lives the media, PR, and account services, and in the back, resides the wondrous creative department.

For the most part, there are no individual offices for the members of the creative department – this way everyone can not only be in constant communication, but also continuously share and bounce ideas off of each other throughout the day.

Is anyone else’s internship office set up in a similar way? The last two places I interned at were not set up like so. I think creative sharing a space is ideal, as there is a constant energy flowing that prevents the space from feeling static or stuffy. Not to mention, the way the space itself is decorated is pretty awesome. Gotta love advertising.

  1. My internship is set up this way as well! Although I am at a PR agency, our office exists in one small room! It sometimes gets busy and overwhelming, but like you said, it is fun to have ideas bounce off of each other. Since I work in the same room I also never have to worry about being alone; I can ask questions easily and get all the help I need without having to travel to a different floor or room. Speaking of space… our walls are orange. Talk about getting the creative juices flowing.

  2. I’m a work from home intern right now but definitely aiming to secure another internship where I hope to be working in the same creative environment you described above! I see a dart board in the photo … do people ever actually play?
