Show Them What You Can Do

This Fall I have learned so much and gained so much experience from interning at the Chestnut Hill Business Association. Interning at CHBA was not a typical advertising internship, but I learned more about marketing an entire town of businesses and the challenges that come with that. Chestnut Hill is a charming town right outside of Philadelphia and the Business Association holds events continuously to draw customers to their strong retail strip of charming shops. My job over the past couple of months has basically been coordinating our marketing for the various events that we hold.

An event that I want to focus on was one of our largest festivals, Harry Potter Fan Fest in October. In collaboration with Chestnut Hill College and Septa, CHBA created an entire weekend of events for Harry Potter fans to enjoy in Chestnut Hill. We hired actors to play Harry Potter characters and had them ride in on our very own Hogwarts Express. The event overall allowed the businesses to come together and provide unique Harry Potter-themed activities and products as well as special menus to people who have never been to Chestnut Hill before.

I do a lot of different work for my internship that is very different and the experience it has provided me with as well as the connections I have made through the CHBA will help me begin my career as I prepare to graduate from Temple. My advice is to always try new things and give it your best effort. Impress the people who can easily help you in the future.

  1. This looks like an awesome event. I interned at a PR/Special events firm and made a lot of connections as well that will help me begin my career. Loved the video! I am personally not a huge fan of Harry Potter but I know that a lot of people are and it is really special that you had real actors come and reenact spells and scenes. Very cool!
