A Gratifying Experience
My experience this semester has been extremely fulfilling. Initially, I viewed my internship merely as a requirement, but it has proven to be so much more than that.
I took a graphic design internship at the Philadelphia Orchard Project, which is a nonprofit organization that is committed to planting orchards all across Philadelphia by partnering with community groups and schools, specifically in low-wealth neighborhoods where people may not have consistent access to fresh food. The Philadelphia Orchard Project, or POP, plans and designs these orchards, planting fruits and plants that are edible for the community to use however they wish, and teaches the community how to care for the orchard as well. The organization does incredible work, by making fresh food much more accessible and creating a more beautiful city for Philadelphia’s residents.
This experience has been extremely gratifying and has allowed me to use my graphic design skills in order to benefit a cause that I truly believe in. I have always wanted to make a difference through my career, and while majoring in advertising I have wondered how I would be able to do that; this internship has shown me that the skills I have learned at Temple really will allow me to do that and contribute to something that is important to me.
