From Teacher to Social Media Coordinator
Hi, everyone! My name is Maria Doyle, and I’m currently a senior advertising major with a concentration in account management at Temple University. This semester, I’m interning at Alphabet Academy Daycare. You might be wondering, why is an advertising major interning at a daycare? Well, it’s been one of the most challenging and fulfilling experiences I’ve had, and here is why.
I’ve actually been working at Alphabet Academy for about five years now, starting at a young age. Over the years, I’ve come to consider this place my second home. Alphabet started as a small business, but it was later acquired by a corporate company. As the daycare began to expand, we realized we needed to rethink our approach to advertising in order to increase visibility and attract new families. That’s when my amazing director, Britteny, asked if I would like to intern with the school to assist with social media, marketing, and event planning. I was the first intern at Alphabet Academy, which was both exciting and a little nerve-wracking!
Throughout this semester, I’ve been involved in various tasks: from posting regularly on social media and tracking insights to creating digital designs, running giveaways, and planning events with my director. Since this was a new experience for both of us, we often learned from each other. Although my director was always there to guide me and offer support, I was able to bring ideas to the table as well. Was it a challenge? Absolutely! But it was the best kind of challenge, and it gave me experience in many areas of advertising.
Overall, my internship at Alphabet Academy has been unpredictable in the best way possible, and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to intern. My advice to anyone seeking an internship is this: Every business, no matter the industry, needs advertising and marketing. Find a place that excites you, even if it seems like an unexpected choice it might offer you experiences and lessons you never expected.
