Learning Social Media for Business
I had the opportunity to spend this past semester as Springfield Country Club’s advertising and marketing intern. I was lucky enough to be able to go into the office and work face-to-face with the rest of the marketing department. This experience has helped me realize my strengths and my opportunities to grow in the world of advertising.
I spent most of my time creating social media posts for all of their platforms. I was able to learn the ins and outs of marketing programs such as Hootsuite, HubSpot, and Asana. In Asana, I was responsible for filtering our meeting notes into the system and assigning tasks to all members of our team. It was a great tool to stay organized and see what everyone is working on in the same place. Writing content for social media has become one of my greatest strengths and has helped me expand my writing into other forms such as blogs! I was never really a person to keep a journal or have my own blog site, but I have enjoyed making posts for SCC. I get to write about all things wedding related since that is our venue’s main attraction. My job also extended to Springfield Country Club’s on-site restaurant that is open to the public. I focused on promoting their food and drink specials through paid and organic social media posts. Since we use a portion of our advertising budget for boosting social posts on Facebook and Instagram, I got to play around with the analytics to target new potential customers based on their demographics and personal interests.
Being able to dive deeper into the mechanics of social media and how it can be used as such a great tool for businesses and marketing has piqued my interest to further pursue a career where it is a part of my daily tasks. Social media is growing at an unbelievable rate and I think that every business should pay special attention to how their brand is perceived and presented to consumers through social media.
