Life Lessons in the Workplace
When you are starting your first job expect the unexpected. Expect to be given something that is urgent and must be done in a few hours, expect to receive an urgent email where you have to rush to your office when you are about to go home after a long day, expect people to appreciate your work, expect people to give you constructive criticism, expect yourself to succeed and times where you may fail.
Having had two internships, many jobs, and leading student organizations from the age of 18 to now having accepted a position in New York City, I have learned to expect the unexpected. This summer I was an intern for Verifone Media in New York City. Verifone Media consists of an advertising network spread across such mediums as Taxi, Gas Stations, and In Store Checkout Advertising. These advertising mediums are spread out through the U.S. and internationally through such markets such as London. While I was an intern I worked with the sales department in gathering sales leads, working on their salesforce database and would gather proof of performance photos for the team.
When my internship was over I was offered and accepted a position with the company as a Product Manager under the Taxi division at Verifone. When I first started out as an intern I had never imagined that I would be offered a job working for a global multi billion-dollar company. Thus for those who are applying and accepting a job after graduation one must know that when it comes to working in the workplace one must expect the unexpected.
