Marketing Mentorship – My experience, insights, and strategies
My name is Jacob Freedman, I’m an Advertising major at Temple University and I am currently interning/assisting at Magnolia House Media
For the past few months I have been working next to a mentor who owns her own marketing/ media planning company. She specializes in content creation and social media management. Some of her clients include people who own private practices like therapists and other clients like new local bars and restaurants trying to create an online presence.
The owner and creator MK is the only employee. There is no office and I am an unpaid apprentice. While this may not be the typical internship, I gained the same skills a paid position would have taught me in a real advertising firm. I have had hands-on experience with clients directly catering to their requests, like creating websites, business cards designing, and social media managing. At a massive company, I may not have been able to work directly with clients and acquired personable experiences in the advertising and marketing world.
To help keep myself busy and maintain with the required hours, I worked on updating some of MK’s old accounts. For example, I updated a few Amazon storefront profiles with new pictures and updated the reviews sections. I also responded to reviews and used SEO to bring some of the older products back into view. One product I worked directly with was Dogoffit. Their website and Amazon profile have been completely updated along with a few other small products from the same owner. https://www.doggoffit.com/
I learned from this mentorship that I want to work directly with clients and business that need help. I have very little desire working behind a desk the rest of my life so to prevent that, you need to stay creative and organized. I know now that to be successful in this field I need to have successful previous work that can make me a reputable source for marketing. As more and more people and businesses think they can use Chatgpt instead of hiring someone to help promote, my biggest take away from this mentorship is that it’s crucial to be personable and extroverted in this business.
