My Experience at The Lincoln Center
Hi everyone, my name is Deann Boyer, and I’m a senior Advertising major with a concentration in account management. This is my last semester at Temple, and I’m currently interning with a nonprofit organization called The Lincoln Center for Family and Youth. Not your typical ad agency internship (obviously), but I’ve gained a lot of behind the scenes insight in content creation and media, and I’m excited to share what I have learned so far.
I’m working with Chris, who is the Media Director. We’ve been working on all things media, such as rack cards, social media posts/creation of these posts, articles/media, website design and imagery, and many other concepts as well. I didn’t exactly know what to expect when coming into the company as a marketing intern, since it is not your typical ad agency. When I first started interning, I was planning social media content for future posts and media strategies such as what to include as topics, imagery to be used, and possible topics of discussion.
I’ve particularly enjoyed working in Canva to help create content. I’ve never used Canva before beginning at TLC, but I’m starting to become quite savvy with the platform. I’ve really liked designing things and using elements like color, shapes, and graphics to create whatever forms of content the company may need.
Recently, I’ve been helping out with the media aspect of building the new website for the school opening in Columbus (feel free to check out the website LINC Columbus). I’ve done work in Shutterstock to find photo and video content to include on the website since it is just getting up and going. Something I hope to learn in the future is how to properly scale images and to make them fit appropriately into specific shape and sized areas.
Overall, The Lincoln Center has taught me a lot about content creation, content planning, and research. Although I have only discussed some of the things I’ve worked on, I’ve contributed in other areas of the company as well. I’m very grateful for the experience I’ve had with The Lincoln Center, and I’m excited to see what the future holds with the world of advertising.
